Journalist Nicky Taylor travels to Amsterdam to investigate the growing debate about the legal classification of cannabis. While there she helps out in a coffee shop that sells the drug, and discovers first hand what the effects of cannabis are on everyday life. Back in the UK Nicky finds out about the genetically modified cannabis skunk, cheap and increasingly sold on the streets. The programme asks whether the drug can make you mad, if it is worse than alcohol and if it is stronger than it used to be. Nicky takes part in a month-long medical trial to find out. WATCHor

So what are the drug laws like in the UK? Simular to the US? Are yall in the midst of the war on drugs as we are?
I used to date this guy that was arrested with 13 pounds of weed. Not so much I think, but he spent 9 years in prison cause of it. Does shit like that happen in the UK too?
Just curious.

Yes the longest running war in the last century is also a blight on England. Wanna talk about failure we have a certain U.S. president to thank for this global fuck - up.
Yes users are arrested and jailed in a country that can't even put it's violent offenders away for any decent length of time. Also there has been recent reports of violent inmates walking out of minimum security prison because there is not enough space in the maximums.
!3 pounds is a lot of weed, there's 16 ounces in a pound so he would have been done for intent to supply at a guess.

But don't you think 9 years is a little excessive?

I think 9 years is way to excesive o_0 but ive always heard bad things about the harsh way american law treats even soft drug users. Mark8 what part of england are you from cos i live there to and ive usually only seen people being warned, i doubt its the same for everyone i guess an i supose it just depends what kinda people the police who catch you are.
This doc was pretty good i thought she was clearly someone who had never smoked before ^^ guess that was what people were talking about when they said she was over acting... an wow wudnt that guy in the museums job be the best one in the world >< he basically jus a talking pot farmer ^^

well if he had 13 pounds as you say, then he got the normal for that amount. I smoke myself and let me tell you if this dude really had 13 pounds then there are going to bust him hard. I know a dude who only had 6 pounds and got distribution to a city for it and is suppose to be in for a min of 10 years.

Well . . . I liked this doc. It was pretty awesome and yes I do agree a little bit with both sides. it is an ideological battle but it doesnt have to be. there are other ways that fighting.

I thought it was a slightly prohibition-biased report. I do agree it was sensationalized by cringe worthy over-acting. Alternatively I would recommend 'Super High Me' and 'In Pot we Trust' which i personally found more entertaining and credible.

the people that work at these coffee shops and try to act professional by explaining, mainly to stoners just wanting to get high, the effects and what strain should be used for what are kinda nutty too. Like the guy who was trying to get some stupid chant going in the " In pot we trust" docu, filming these people hurts cannibus progression in the states.
she also hotboxes that joint so no shit she'll be gone.
i kinda think she just wanted to take a pot filled vacation, film it, and turn it into this retarded docu, the alcoholic reverts back to her "drug of choice" the legal choice, responseable people want to be able to have access to it and not want to worry about going to jail
thanks for the post

I think its sad that Weed is grouped in the same categories as drugs like Cocaine and Heroin in the States. Cocaine and Heroin are cultivated in countries and sold to support drug cartels which results in lots of death and crime. Marijuana generally doesnt cause as much crime, its a friendly drug if you want to call it a drug, and you cant overdose from it at all.
Governments around the world dont realize this is the same as the acohol prohibition, if they want to solve crime problems, they can legalize, tax and distribute. They could even create an entire industry just the same as Liquor. Imagine a bunch of companies forming a brand and licensing their own strains of Marijuana. Just think of the amount of jobs that could create, it would probably equal the tobacco industry.
Oh well, im just thankful im in Canada where the laws are much more relaxed on marijuana. If I got caught smoking a joint while walking down the street, a cop would probably make me toss it on the ground and grind it out with my shoe, maybe search me then just call me an idiot. If I got caught with an ounce, they might just confiscate it but i wouldnt get arrested. If I had 13 pounds of weed and got caught, im sure id be arrested but unless I was caught as part of some ongoing sting operation, I might not even do any time.
I had a buddy caught with a couple pounds and he was arrested, spent the night in jail then got bail, Im not sure the results but i dont think he got anything more then probation. Worse case scenario getting caught with 13 pounds in Canada, you might get 1 year, but 9 is rediculous, thats the same as some violent offenders.

I agree 100%! "Super High Me" was one of the better documentaries i have seen on the subject of cannabis. Super informative and if you

before watching it...you will get quite a few laughs.
"Grass" a docu narrated by Woody Harrelson is an amazing one on the entirety of the war on cannabis in the US (and somewhat abroad)

I smoked for about 3 years, about an 1/8th of an ounce a week. I was so freaked out about having the cops bust in and my colleagues at work catching on to my little ruse (losing my job) that I ended up having a little breakdown. I haven't smoked for almost a year now, and let me tell you.. drinking and smoking cigs is SO MUCH WORSE than smoking pot. At least when I was smoking pot I was a nicer person, calmer, more relaxed and enjoyed life. There's nothing worse than alcohol in my opinion. If pot were legal this world would be a better place. Pot could probably revive the economy in the US too if it were taxed properly. Not to mention the fact that it would kill about 70% of the drug cartels' business. The "war on drugs" is the most hypocritical thing I've ever heard. Even though I support Obama, I find it ironic that while the man smokes cigarettes but won't even listen to anything that has to do with legalizing marijuana.
This world we live in is completely backwards sometimes. It makes no sense. Life is short, pretty painful at times, often boring and tasteless -- why not allow people to have a joint every now and then without feeling guilty or breaking the law? I just don't get it..

Ha, and this while they now hock all sorts of waaay more damaging psychotropic drugs on prime time television like its no more than popping pez.... mixed messages much? They work both sides of the drug industry, legal & illegal. If it was legalized that would topple alot of the bureaucracy thats been built up, so many of our benevolent institutions woludn't have a reason to exist; alotta crime is just self perpetuating big buisness, like war
