Full Version: Divx Web Player Error

Hi all,

Every time I try to stream a DIVX movie, I get the following message:

"The Divx Web Player could not download the video. Please check your Internet Connection."

I have checked my firewalls, uninstalled and reinstalled the DIVX web player, and have updated to the latest one to no avail. If I use an old version of the web player, only half of the movies seem to work for me. I've had this problem for the past month and haven't been able to watch any of Mr. Brownee's DIVX movies sad.gif

Can someone help me?

Same thing as this one.

No, that person is not getting a message to check their internet connection. I'm also viewing movies that haven't been taken down because others are commenting on watching them.

Check the instructions in the Divx Movies thread. Try that & if it fails again, contact the crew that manages the thread, they are sure to resolve. It's most likely dead or in need of refreshing.

I'm saying this of any DIVX movie that I try to play. The problem is not with the movies but with my webplayer, which gives me an error message about my internet connection every time I try to stream a DIVX movie.

Last idea, otherwise, we'll just have to wait for someone else to come along or get with brownee's crew.

i have read over 20 threads at various forums including the divx site itself that people have posted this identical problem. unfortunantly not a single one had the answer to the problem... but here are a few methods that may help that weren't mentioned in any of them.

uninstall the divx bundle again, but this time run a registry cleaning program after uninstall... i recommend this one. Registry Mechanic

then go to your firewall and instead of making sure the divx webplayer is enabled to pass, remove it completely from any list that may be there.

depending on how you are connecting to the internet, disable the connection entirely. hell i'd even say go to your device manager and uninstall your ethernet card if are using one.

reboot your computer.

set your internet connection back up from scratch.

reinstall the divx bundle.

try to use the divx webplayer again. if you firewall pops up asking you to allow it (and i'm guessing it should seeing as how you removed it entirely earler before the reboot) then do so.

best i can come up with.

I've personally not come across this problem as you've stated, where the older version of the player will work on some movies but not the newest one, so you'll have to be patient while we do some trial and error to try to help.

Here's the best way I know to find out if it is your player, and that's to test a link that is known to be active and working for someone else.
Try this link: http://thebrownster70.110mb.com/qss/sz4/garf.html (it's working perfectly for me as of 5/30 1:50 pm EST)
Or this link: http://thebrownster70.110mb.com/qss/new/horton.html (this one's hosted on ezyfile so it doesn't require refreshing and is always active, just click the 'Watch Streaming' button to get to the player, then as usually click play to start)

One thought, If you've tried any of the links on the lower part of Mrbrownee's 1st post, those all require the Veoh Helper and if it isn't installed and running you will get the exact error you reported. The one's at the top of the list usually just give the error 'Not a Divx file' if it needs to be refreshed.

If you try the link above (today) and still get the same internet error then I would suggest try sadeyesbleeding's suggestion above. If you continue to have problems then reply back here (info on your system might be helpful at that point... like XP, Vista, Mac, what browser, etc) and we'll continue to investigate.

I've tried both the links you've sent me and still get the same error message. So for sure the problem is with the player. I have an XP Service Pack 2 and use the latest Firefox. I haven't tried bleeding's suggestion, so I'll do that in a little bit.

Hope that works, cause I also searched several threads and have found nothing even close to a solution.
If it doesn't work, have you tried it in IE as well? (in case there's some setting or add-on in FF that might cause the problem)
Are you running anything other than your firewall that could possibly block connection with the stream?
SEB
don't most routers also have a firewall built in as well? if you are using a router that may be the problem. the routers firewall. not windows firewall.

Thanks for your input, but have already ruled out the veoh helper streams.

I followed this word for word and I still get the same damn message. I really have no clue what's going on now.

I don't think this is a problem since I can stream movies on another computer in my house.

For some reason, if I downgrade to DIVX bundle 6.3, some of the movies work for me. For some of the movies however, I get this message: "The Divx Web Player can only Divx Files."

For example, this works fine: http://greeniz.110mb.com/qss/sm3.html

But this doesn't: http://thebrownster70.110mb.com/qss/sz4/garf.html

that's because the second one is dead... lol. it won't work for anybody because its a dead link.

Hmmm, seems like we're back to post two of this thread.

Oh & youngatheist, here is how to multiquote instead of 14, 15, 16 separate posts.

Click the quote button & it will go from a plus symbol to a minus symbol.
Click the next quote button & any other number of different quote buttons as long as they all show minus.
Then click the button at the bottom, below the blue bar, between the Fast Reply button & the New Topic button , not the one to the right of quote button.
