I am always editing Home Movies to put on the web for my scattered family and I have been using Windows Movie Maker and have had satisfactory results. I am downloading ULead VideoStudio now and I am just wondering what the general opinion is on which one is better.

Note: The camera I use to record videos usually saves them in AVI. Format which is a huge file. I would like to edit my videos to fit onto Youtube without minimizing the quality.

Also if anyone knows of an even better Editor and knows where to get a copy, I would appreciate the information.

Thanks

this is what i use for reencoding large divx or avi files. you can edit them to suit your needs. choose bitrates and resolutions. it just awesome. been using it awhile for all my movie file reencodes and dvd encodes. hope you like it.

TMPGEnc Dvd Author 3 with Divx authoring

Thanks.

I will try it out and see how it does and I let you know.

Its work good but when I use the program to "Write To Disk", they won't play in my DVD Player which does play burned DVD's.

EDIT: Ok, I tried a smile file to experiment. I use the program you gave me to encode the video then I used Nero to burn the movie. It worked perfectly.

However, if I try to import a large file (700 MB), it keeps loading and loading. I have let it go for about ten minutes beofre stopping it. Is it normal for it to take this long to import the video into the program?

yes, because it analyzes the video when you add it. scene by scene. i noticed this to. but its only on large files like you said. but after its done analyzing (usually takes about 3 minutes on my computer with 736mb ram, and an 1.8ghz athlonxp processor). but after that its smooth sailing. encoding a movie to dvd usually takes around the length of the movie or so. 2 hours usually. i also burn the encodes with nero and don't have any problems. one other thing i will say is i've never made a coaster with this program and then burning slow with nero. so waiting a lil bit for the large file to import isn't so bad. i mean, its gonna take awhile for it to encode to dvd. or reencode to divx. hours or so. but it works.

I left for the store about 2 hours ago and I had it importing while we were gone but when I got back, it has frozen. It accepts AVI. format movies right?
SEB
it sure does. is your computer powerful enough to be rendering full movies. enough ram, fast processor. etc? it takes alot of juice to do that.
ChaosReaper
Yea, I have done all this before. I tried some of my other videos and it only seems to have this problem with AVI Format. My DIVX videos transfer flawlessly.

EDIT: The DIVX movie was 700 MB and it took about 5 second to import. The AVI sat for two hours and still didn't work.

hmmm... i'm a bit baffled then. because i always download high quality 700mb releases of movies in avi format and convert them with this program flawlessly. it could be a codec problem. are you using the latest version of the divx codec? here is the link for that.
DIVX 6.8
another good program alot of people use is ConvertXToDvd
which can be found in this software list:

THE ULTIMATE SOFTWARES COLLECTION BY GOTMILK

oh and what version of nero are you using? does it include Nero Vision? if so you might wanna try using that. that way you can encode and burn using the same product. If your version of Nero doesn't have Nero Vision you can also find it on that same list. there are a couple of different versions to choose from. i would suggest the first Nero 7 premium because Nero 8 has some wicked anti piracy protection crap now.

Alright, I will try those and see how they work.

I really appreciate the help.

EDIT: I am running NERO 6 and I do have Nero Vision but when I use it, it always messes up my audio.

I tried the ConvertXToDVD and it works perfectly. Thanks a lot.
