ok so i have decided i want to reinstall my OS, but i have a few movies files on my HD i would like to keep. I currently dont have any dvd+R's to record the movies on to, but i do have 700MB cd-R's and was thinking of converting the .avi files with convertxtodvd and burning the video/audio ts folders as data on the cd-R. The file size of the video/audio ts folders are around 1.3gb each, and heres where i am, stuck contemplating if this will work or not. Any suggestions of ideas??

normally divx movies are made to fit 1 CD-R (700 mb), so you should just burn it one file/disc, instead of making them into DVDs (which WILL require more space)

and, buy some DVD-Rs....it'll save you so much headache...

alternatively, get an external harddrive, use it as a back up and storage when reinstalling.

if the movie is 1.3GB and the cd-R is 7ooMB you could split the movie into two parts save them to disk then re join them back after you've done what you need to

if you have a recovery drive ( D: drive ) , use that to put the movies on. it will save you the hassle of burning. when you format the OS , you dont lose whats on the Recovery drive . Basically you lose the C drive but keep the D drive.

well if you were to do it this way then i would have to wonder if convertxtodvd would actually burn the videos to a cd-r .. (i have never done that anyway)

if the each video is 1.3 gigs then it will not fit onto a 700mb cd. is that what you meant by will it work or not??

Personally, I would buy some Dvd-R discs like Wintermute said.. or maybe even Dvd-R DL which are double layer. they store twice as much as a normal 4.7gb dvd-r would hold ( the ones i have hold 8.5 gigs )
