Full Version: Pop Ups/spyware On Quicksilverscreen.com?
QuickSilverScreen Forum > QSS > Help

Is this happening to anyone else on the site? I have my pop up blocker turned on on my macbook but I keep getting poker adds popping up in the background. I don't see any of the pop ups until I close Quicksilverscreen and then there's a bunch of them on my screen. I seem to get a new pop up whenever I click on a new page while on Quicksilverscreen. Do I need to download spybot or is this a way Quicksilverscreen generates income through advertisers? Although the pop ups don't mess up navigating the site it's annoying to have to close a dozen pop ups when I'm done!!! angry.gif I'd appreciate it if anyone knows what's going on? Thanks.

i have just recently started getting popups when i click on the forum link on the main page. only happens on QSS though, No other sites have given me any trouble at all.
Jeepboy
Thanks Shoomer. I've been on QSS for awhile but usually just watch online or download occasionally but never really post on the forum because I've never had problem using the site or finding anything. It's weird, I only get the pop ups when I'm on QSS no other sites that's why I asked. I love QSS. Do you think downloading spybot will get rid of whatever I have? Sorry I'm not that techy. Thanks.

If you only see them after you minimize/close your page, then they are pop-unders good sir. And i too sometime get a pop-up when i click the forum button from the main page, but then i get pop-ups from time to time wherever i click on the internet, so i think its my computer, and not the site.
Jeepboy
That's the same problem I'm having. When I go to the forum and then click on the page numbers below to see each page I seem to get a new pop up each time. Strange?

I know nothing about macs, but I would give spybot a go. All I can say is, I have never had a pop-up in the forum, been here about 5 months....I`m sure a mac user will look in before long and be able to give some more help.
Jeepboy
hitmewitdarock, since you're a moderator do you know how I might get rid of this? Sorry, like I said I'm not that techy and don't know how to rid my computer of this. Thanks for everyone's replies by the way, it's good to know there's people on here willing to help if you have a problem or just to chime in if they are experiencing the same or similar problems. Would you guys recommend spybot or something like that to fix this problem?

I'm a mac user and I have no pop-ups when on QSS.

I just got my macbook in October and I'm getting those pop unders. Even now while I am posting this message on the forum I got three pop unders. One was from partypoker.net and the other two were from singles.net.

I googled prevx but all the downloads seem to be for pc and there's nothing about mac. Anyone else know of a program I can download to get rid of these pop ups?

Just use safari and firefox or try

Thanks, I've been looking it up as well and I am downloading clamxav right now to see if it works. I am only getting the pop unders while using Safari on QSS. It doesn't happen when I'm using Firefox or when I'm on other websites.

Another way to get pop-ups, pop-unders or adware on QSS is indirectly by visiting off-site content links in forum posts. If an off-site area uses content which requires Quick Time, you can inadvertently get malware if you don't have the latest Quick Time patch.
Jeepboy
I downloaded ClamXav as someone suggested and I've been scanning everything and I can seem to find anything. Is there a certain folder that malware would most likely be found? Should I get the newest Quicktime patch? Sorry but I don't have a lot of computer knowledge when it comes to stuff like this. I know how to surf and download and basic stuff but I'm utterly lost when it comes to diagnosing and fixing problems with a computer.

yea its weird i never get pop up's when using qss while operating on firefox that is. i do sometimes get them on internet explorer, so my advice here would be to use firefox instead ( plus its quicker than IE )
offworldvacations
I do not get them at all. but I used to. and you may have caught a nasty. try this. if you are using firefox (and prettymuch the same w/ IE): >tools >clear private data, and that will speed stuff up a little when u r in a pinch. next, if you have a nasty, download spybot (those r good folk, and if you can, make the donation) it is free though, and download adaware, I actually run adaware vrynite or morning. DO NOT run them at the same time. if that don't work, look into norton. if that don't work, capture whatever you need to save and COMPLETELY reformat. and in the future, meaning after you drop in your new O.S. then do these things immediately next or the nasty can come right back. ya gotta wear a vest when yur in da' chit! but QSS is the green zone. so WTF. do not take my word, I learned from the army black hack sqaud (which I am not). Please, ANYONE, correct me if I am offbase. pay attention to what your adaware or spy is telling you and the locations of the bs it digs up. pretty soon it should be routine.

I think I may have solved the problem. I downloaded PithHelmet and there's an "ad blocking" tab where you can check the box "block 3rd party url's" as well as "remove pop under links". Once I changed all the setting and went to QSS using Safari and I still got pop unders but once I checked the "block filtered content" box I never got anymore pop unders so I think that is the key. When you first go on to QSS it will look really weird, just all text and no formating but once you click on forum or anything else all the formating comes back and it looks normal again. Since I've checked what I think are all the correct settings on PithHelmet I can navigate the site and click on any pages and login to the forum and there are no pop unders. Anyone else having this problem and you are on Mac I would highly recommend this. Thanks for everyone's input, hopefully my post will help someone else.
haleem
Glad your problem got solved.
Jeepboy
Ooohhh! This sucks! PithHelmet didn't solve the problem, I'm still getting these stupid annoying pop unders! It worked for a bit but now they're back! Someone shoot me now! So pissed right now!
haleem
There must be something wrong is your system files.
I would suggest you remove any new software which you might suspect.
Go to your program files and find out if there is something installed on your computer which should not be there.
Jeepboy
Yeah, unfortunately I'm not computer literate enough to fix it myself. I am going to have to take my macbook to a friend who is a total macnerd and see if he can figure out what's going on. Just logging in now to post this I got a pop under every time I clicked on anything on QSS. So annoying!
