Moving from one parish to another in Northern California during the 1970s, Father Oliver O'Grady quickly won each congregation's trust and respect. Unbeknownst to them, O'Grady was a dangerously active pedophile that Church hierarchy, aware of his predilection, had harbored for over 30 years, allowing him to abuse countless children. Juxtaposing an extended, deeply unsettling interview with O'Grady himself with the tragic stories of his victims, filmmaker Amy Berg bravely exposes the deep corruption of the Catholic Church and the troubled mind of the man they sheltered.

Can you find this in one part as breaking it up dilutes the impact.. and I think this movie needs to gut punch as hard as it can. Then maybe some will "see the light" as they say. dry.gif

Pope Benedict XVI (the former Cardinal Ratzinger) was accused of an intentional conspiracy to cover-up sexual abuse in the U.S.(during his role as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith 1978-2005). "I've taken the depositions from cardinals, arch-bishops and bishops across this country {U.S.) for 23 years and what I've encountered is deception, perjury, denial and deceit at the highest levels of the catholic church" (Jeff Anderson). "This is big business to the church, this is money to the church, its like a big corporation" (Bob Jyono). At the Vatican's request President Bush has granted the pope immunity from prosecution. http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/pope-seek...3958097061.html

awesome documentary... I had seen a portion of it about a year ago but hadn't seen the whole thing.

Even though I've read countless reports about priests abusing children it just isn't the same as watching it.

For anyone who hasn't seen this... you really should give it a look... time well spent.

thanks Mark8 and thanks to everyone who added additional links. smile.gif

Yeah, cheers Mark8, a very powerful documentary.

The ongoing damage this poor excuse for a human being has, and will continue to cause, is beyond words.

Money, power, exploitation and greed is evidently what the Catholic church is all about at it's very core, and no doubt most if not all other religions follow suit in varying degrees. Efforts made to expose these corruptive elements have a very important part to play on many levels.

Truth and compassion to me, are values of the highest nature, whether one has a belief in a spiritual existance or not. Any institution (particulary religion) with a hierachial structure is open to corruption in a most complex and deceptive manner, and should be viewed with much care. These insights should be part of the education ciriculum, but that comes from another hierachial institution, therefore corrupt in not serving the interests of the peoples well being, but itself.

There was one area of this documentary I had reservations about, which drew paralells between David Koresh (Waco), and the sexually abusive elements of the Cathoilc church. Not that I'm condoning Koresh, or claiming his innocence outright in this regard, my understanding was that at least no immediate claims of sexual abuse were made by any of the children that stayed in Koresh's cult, those that survived being burnt alive by the FBI and the millitary torches, that is.

Thanks again Mark8, you've posted some great stuff exposing corruption in religion. Jesus camp was another mind blowing documentary, but was a little easier to watch and digest than this. Thought you might be interested in a Ted Haggard update...
