faxanadu
Jan 4 2010, 06:05 PM
It is a possibility. People have been talking about it for a very long time, but until now it has been talked about more and more. People are starting to wonder, come up with ideas. Some are scared and worried about it. Now for me, I don't think it is going to end, although I do have a feeling that it could be possible and that it slightly scares me a little that you may just have only 2 years left to live. After all, who wants to know the exact time and date they are going to die? If it is true, I'm going to get extremely high and drunk, and when I mean high, I'm not talking just weed, I'm talking different drugs to get me to the point that I don't care anymore. I'll also take that time watching my favorite movies and tv shows in order to occupy my time.
Do you think capital punishment is a good idea, even though it has been proven that it actually costs the tax payers more money to kill someone in prison as well as there have been tons of people (thanks to DNA tests) that have proved that the person was innocent all along?
side note:
For people to understand what I mean about how it costs us more money for executions let me explain quick. Most people assume that the tax payers, pay more money keeping someone alive, by paying for their food, clothing, medical stuff ect. But in all actuality, when someone is on Death Row, they have the right to appeal their sentence as many times as they possibly can before their scheduled day of the execution. A lot of these people are just regular people like you and me, that cannot afford a lawyer, so they get one appointed by the court (public defender), so tax payers have to pay for that lawyer, not only that, but they have to pay for the judge and people on the jury, court fees, medical stuff, because there have been prisoners that tried killing themselves, which then causes they date of execution to be postponed until they feel better, which once again we have to pay for the doctor, medicine, surgeries, and physical therapy. There area also a long list of other things that you have to consider as well. Not only that, but if it is every found out that the person was wrongly killed for a crime they didn't commit, then you are talking about millions of dollars being sent to the remaining family members for wrongful death. The list goes on and on. If you just give them life without parole, then the money that is spent to keep them alive is a lot more less.

I totally agree with letting them suffer and rot away in prison. In fact I remember learning about jails and prison when I was in elementary school (when elementary schools had better education if you ask me lol) and that the original plan/purpose of jail was not just to lock someone up because they were a threat to society, but more along the lines for them to sit in a cell, alone, without any contact whatsoever to anyone either in or out so that the criminal can sit and "think" about what they did. If you ask me, if I was in prison (and thank God I never was and I pray I never will) I would want them to kill me. Yeah, I would be scared to die, the idea of knowing the very moment it was going to happen and the last minute would literally make me break down. But just the idea of sitting in a jail cell for the rest of my life because of my crimes, well that would be total hell for me as well. Personally I was in jail when I was 16 years old for a serious crime (which wasn't until about 5 years later I got a letter from the court telling me that my crime had been expunged due to the fact that someone finally came forward and admitted to that crime as well as other serious crimes). Lucky for me I was still a juvenile so it didn't get put in adult court, although they tried to and the crime was a misdemeanor due to me being a juvenile. However, I remember for the 3 months when I was in jail pending trial, it was horrible and total hell for me. Sitting there, thinking how I was in the place, not even having a window to look outside or even be taken outside for fresh air. When you have your freedom taken from you, you start to realize that you took advantage on so many things without even realizing it.
anyways on to your question:
Hmmm, I agree and also disagree with that.
I mean I like miracle whip on my sandwich, but I prefer real good ol' Mayo on my sandwich. So it always depends on the situation. If there was the option of either MW or Mayo, I would choose Mayo. But if there was neither of them, then it wouldn't be a sandwich at all, just some bread, cheese, meat and whatever else you put on the stuff.
The large majority of people who say are obese and has a "disease" and can't lose weight due to their metabolism is full of shit and in complete denial. That all they really need to do is put the bacon cheeseburgers down and get on a damn trend mill and show some self control. Also, diet soft drinks don't "equal" everything out after eating half the menu at a fast food restaurant.

ATTENTION Clean Air Breathers: for the next four or five posts
<or so>, make it 6
<or more> if you want the air to clear first, this will temporarily become a "smoker's area" post. As always, everyone is welcome to breathe anywhere they like, however, at this time we invite all those, wishing to breathe clean air, to leave the thread, exit the forum and step
at least 50 feet away from the building
before commencing your breathing activities in the clean, crisp, refreshing air of winter. For your convenience, we will be propping open the janitor's door to the underground furnace room on the other end of the mainsite.
<If you get cold, the warmest place to go is behind the building, by the dumpster and you can even sit on the curb if it's not wet (or dirty) If it rains, quite a few of you should be able to snuggle in together under the awning by the generators. How cozy!> Anyone choosing to remain in this thread will now kindly refrain from any and all contrived coughing, choking or hacking behaviors, as they will have no effect during this period. Thank You!
Thank you in advance for this indulgence and I apologize for any disruption of forum flow that this may cause.

Smoking takes 5 minutes off your life, but a smoke takes 7 minutes to smoke, so I'm up by 2 minutes right?
Aaka
Mar 3 2010, 10:00 PM
agreed. you are the winner by 2 indeed
thanks in advance folks, for bearing with me as i investigate this new theory in order to chase down the next question
using hilt's formula (previous post), would it not also stand to (real and actual) reason, that since i smoke 120's, and a leisurely smoke is 13 min and hardcore at around 10 min, if i used 12 min as an average, less the 5 min penalty, that leaves me ahead by 7. <i used my fingers so i'm pretty sure the math is correct>
the question:
based entirely on the last two posts, if the penalty remains the same but the gain actually increases with the length of the cigarette, a smoker's best gain will be realized by smoking longer cigerettes, so, by extension, doesn't logic now
have to support the equation that, if you smoke more, you will gain more?
ooh oooh oooh, i know the answer!!! pick me, pick me!!!! Pretty Pleeeaaaase!
sorry, sorry, sorry, please forgive me, but it's not often that we get the opportunity to make solid logic work for us on this (and extra bonus for me since i smoked three cigarettes while working out the post) <unless i'm totally wrong.......but i'm not.....i hope>
i am glad that that one was taken to the hilt!

HILT, good on ya man, good on ya!
