Full Version: What's In Your Dvd Collection?

I was just curious...

What bought DVDs (or Blu-Ray discs) are in your collection? And would you recommend buying any of them?

In other words...which DVDs did you think worthy of your purchasing?

I tend to watch movies on here first, and then if I really enjoy them, I will buy the DVD. I am a sucker for special editions, because I enjoy director's commentary, and things like "making of" documentaries. I like to see how the movies I enjoy are made, or hear the directors thoughts about his film.

My collection is small at the moment...I don't purchase DVDs often...but here is what I own...

2001: A Space Odyssey (Special Edition)
Adventures of Indiana Jones (Complete DVD Movie Collection Box Set)
Alien (The Director's Cut)
Big Trouble in Little China (Special Edition)
Blade Runner (Four-Disc Collector's Edition)
Clerks (10th Anniversary Collector's Edition)
Creepshow
Escape from New York (Special Edition)
Evil Dead 2 (Book of the Dead Limited Edition)
Friday the 13th I - VIII (From Crystal Lake to Manhattan Box Set)
Ghostbusters 1 & 2 (Double Feature Gift Set)
Halloween (25th Anniversary Edition)
It
Mad Max (Special Edition)
Manhunter
Night of the Living Dead (Millennium Edition)
Nightmare on Elm Street I - VII (Collection Box Set)
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (Collector's Edition)
Predator (Collector's Edition)
Ren & Stimpy (The Complete First and Second Seasons Box Set)
Robocop (20th Anniversary Collector's Edition)
Sleepy Hollow
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Special Extended Edition)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Special Extended Edition)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Ultimate Edition)
The Thing (Collector's Edition)
Total Recall (Special Limited Edition)
Wizards

I buy a new DVD about once every month or two...usually off of ebay.

You've never watched The Wall ? Back when I was a teen and super into Pink Floyd I watched it with Mary Jane, a really close girlfriend of mine at the time. Just the two of us. It was great. smile.gif I thought everyone had seen The Wall. smile.gif

hmm my husband left me a huge movie collection.
last time i counted them there were over 600 movies and around 300 tv shows(including cartoons/anime dvd's)

he always searched for special editions like the alien head and things like that

i also love his old laserdisc collection which includes a liminted astro edition of dawn of the dead... i cant remember what he said about it but i think there were only 250? or 100 made?

i myself started a blu ray collection and ive just bought saving private ryan, thats a pretty cool movie to watch if you have a nice sound system and hd tv.

i had the sound turned up all the way and wow did it blow me away

otherwise i cant really shout out a few dvds because there are so many good ones in the collection(i do really like the old 80s cartoon dvd sets and the anime movies/shows)

also the complete sopranos show and the shield
ow and not to forget the supernatural boxes i just bought.

I just picked up the out of print Anchor Bay release of Manhunter (1986) off of ebay...so that should be showing up at my door sometime in the next week or two. Unfortunately though...I didn't do enough research on it. The DVD SAYS it's the "theatrical version" (the original), but actually apparently it's not. Apparently they removed one good scene, and added a couple of other useless ones instead. I wish I had known that before I bought it...but that's ok, because I only spent about $5 on it. It just sucks that now I'm going to have to buy the new MGM release of it as well, as it actually contains the REAL theatrical version. Damn you Anchor Bay...you're usually pretty good.

That's crazy...That is the kind of collection I would like to have. I love film. And you still have laserdiscs? That's awesome...I love those things, because they look like giant CD's. Very comical. laugh.gif

Hey thanks! Never heard of that place before. I'll have to check it out.

EDIT:

Their prices are alright, but I still get better deals off of ebay. I've never payed more than 10 bucks for a DVD on ebay. I'm in Canada, so if I include their shipping rate ($6.50 USD), the DVDs on that site end up costing me about, or even more than, what I'd pay if I bought them brand new.

secondspin usually has a promo code goin to make things alot cheaper, like 30% off or free shipping or some such. I've been burned too many times on ebay to trust that place for out of print DVDs. Most of the stuff I've bought from secondspin is labeled as used, but showed up at my door still in its original shrinkwrap from the retailer (my Wicker Man pine box set, all my anchor bay tins, etc... none of them cost me more than about 15 bucks total including shipping with promo codes). I got about 70% of my Anchor Bay numbered editions from there for short money... I think the most expensive one was the Anchor Bay 2 disc Supergirl for 23 bucks. Sometimes you even find OOP collectible stuff on there they forgot to label as "hard to find/rare", like the Anchor Bay numbered edition of Dario Agento's Opera... I think I got that for 4.99 if I remember correctly, and it was a low number and still sealed in its original shrink wrap from Best Buy...lol.
