No need to wait. It's relatively simple to defeat.

Just disconnect from the internet (I do it by simply powering my modem off and back on again). If your ISP uses dynamic IP addressing (more likely than not), after reconnecting you'll be assigned a new IP address, at which point Megaupload no longer knows you're you (whether you're logged in to your free account or downloading anonymously--doesn't matter).

Note that just powering off your router (assuming you've got a separate modem and router) will not work. You MUST completely sever the connection between your modem and the internet.
