This is a Polish drama mini-series that takes place just prior to the end of WWII (1945) and extends into the 1960's. It tells the story of the inhabitants of a Warsaw (Warszawa) tenement who begin returning home just after the liberation of Warsaw and try to piece their lives together after five horrific years of war which has thoroughly decimated most of Poland and turned the capital of Poland into rubble. It's a wonderful drama about hope, love, hatred and everything in between. For those viewers interested in history it gives an insight into the establishment of a communist nation as seen through the lives of the people and I must say it is done without being overly partisan to the communist agenda, something that polish cinema has fought hard to do during the communist years. The translation is excellent even if the nuanced polish humor is not given its' proper due. It's long so if you get into it and I really don't see how one would not if it's given a chance then it's a real treat and an opportunity to see a nation try to rise up out of the mayhem of WWII told by the people who lived it. Even though the political elements are always present, it really is a story of the people in that building and I love it. A really powerful story with great acting. Enjoy.

PS. If anyone does choose to watch it and is at anytime confused as to why something has happened I will be more than happy to try to clarify it for you. PM me if you wish. Especially during the first few episodes there's an ongoing conflict between the pro-old Poland underground fighters and the new pro-communist organizations which may lead to some questions. My grandfather was one of those underground soldiers and perished in the Warsaw Uprising of 1944.
