Full Version: Does Your Divx Suck? Lag? Spikes? Slow Moving?

Well, ever since the last DivX player came out, it has simply sucked. For me and several of my friends across a verity of browsers and operating systems have trouble with DivX now. It freezes and lags up. Sometimes you have to turn off the computer to get out of it. I had to yank my laptop battery out. My laptop is a 2600 buck gaming laptop and DivX makes it cry.

The last DivX version has a lot of memory leaks and problems, even if the company won't say so. As of late their customer service has sucked and failed to provide service. Ever since Stage6 closed they really, don't seem like they care.

So, if you are having a hard time with DivX and you want to watch your video in peace but with the DivX quality over flash? Here's what I did to get around it on Windows Vista:

Download the video. On mrbrownee70's site, the download link is in neon green here:

You can also enable DivX to autosave the file when it buffers it all, automatically too via preferences on the webplayer.

Now! Open up Windows Media Player and open the file (easily done with drag and drop) and you should be able to play on your computer's native media software, due to your codecs being installed. smile.gif. You can also open up VLC.

I use VLC often or WMP depends what I have open for certain things. Both don't lag out and throw fits like a second grader at a twelve grade party.

How sad is it? I prefer WMP to play DivX films over DivX now? And to think I paid for pro...

Hope this helps thouse who has problems with DivX taking over and making everything slow!

U could always roll back to an older version of the Divx webplayer, personally I ignored the upgrade as I like to wait to get feedback on the newer version.
EARLYBUCKS
do you have links to the older ones?
bukcherry
Exactly , ive held back on the upgrade but i do still have problems , slow (or no) buffering and movies that just stop half way thru but hey this is the way things go ......still lovin the Opera btw

Yeah I have the loop problem in divx at least twice in every movie. The video will freeze and the audio will loop for at least 5 seconds. . no biggie but it's pretty annoying. Even when the video is played from my HD it does this. WMP and VLC I don't have that issue with. EARLYBUCKS here are the older divx version links http://www.oldversion.com/DivX.html. Ashkir you paid for pro? Wow that sucks you can download it with a keygen included in the internet cafe.

No my DivX doesn't suck, lag, spike or move slow. emoticon-0114-dull.gif
Did you read anything about the new player before you installed it? huh.gif ( http://labs.divx.com/node/14711 )
It clearly stated is was beta.gif and even said it had known bugs that could cause freezing and browser crashes.
As already said, roll back your version. wink.gif
...or if you're a glutton for punishment you can test out 2.0.0.240 laugh.gif

I too had problems with the looping on my Vista machine running FF 3.5 and Divx Web Player 1.5 (which comes with Divx 7 Bundle)

So I did some looking around and installed Divx Web Player 1.4.2 Beta 2 and almost never have a problem. It used to be available on labs.divx.com but it seems to have been removed now, so I upped it to megaupload. This is the installer just for the Web Player:

Note: This version does not support HD Divx streaming, so if that's an option you want you'll need to stick with version 1.5 or later.
Thanks to TheHatedMenace for bringing this up

I've been testing the new beta 2.0.0.240 and haven't had any problems. I'm enjoying the mkv capabilities. Seems like it takes it about 10 seconds or so longer to actually start the stream, but after it starts everything plays fine till the end. No loops or lag. Haven't seen any real big memory leak or anything like that. No crashes yet. I'm pretty pleased with it.

You know, I hadn't even tried that, but I just tried a link and it didn't seem to like HD Divx at all lol
That is a good point for those that want to stream HD Divx, and of course only the 2.0 betas support mkv streaming.

Haven't tried that one yet, 2.0.0.230 was a bit flakey, will have to look into the latest and greatest smile.gif

I'm going to try that one out.

Edit: Even worse loop than the main version you get with the bundle. The loops are not as long but seem to happen more often. Maybe it's just my laptop that's a piece of crap LOL! Here's a screen of my specs. It's an Acer. Oh how I wish I had the money for a new laptop.

I didn't exactly pay for pro, nor cracked it. My dad had to get it installed on his work computers, but he was sent an extra copy, so I got the key.
