There is grandeur in this view of life

Richard Dawkins' talk at the 2009 Atheist Alliance International Conference in Burbank, California. He expands the last paragraph of Darwin's "On the Origin of Species" as a framework for the talk. This is also the framework for the last chapter of Dawkins' new book "The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution".

Both are great talks. The morality talk was fantastic and offered some concepts that were unfamiliar to me. This is an especially important subject for me personally, since this mysterious origin of morality is the linchpin that keeps of few of my friends religiosity intact. One of them has already caved under the monstrous amount of evidence for evolved altruism. I even saw him ministering this information at a party recently and was quite proud to watch him flaunt his new world view. smile.gif

The best talk of the three, in my opinion. Very interesting cosmological science.
Dawkins calls Lawrence Krauss the Woody Allen of Science, for all the jokes in his talk.

Though not mentioned in the talk, there is an interesting book: Something called Nothing by R. Podolny; translated from the Russian by Nicholas Weinstein, that is available for free online, which some readers will enjoy.

Both very good talks.
In The Evolution of Confusion, Dennet talks about the reasons religious representatives who have lost their faith are often trapped into remaining silent about their change of views.
In Why Evolution Is True, Coyne presents many interesting examples of how evolution can explain many adaptations found in the natural world, but religion can't.
