Excel works for Across: an organization bent on world domination to create a better society. She ain't exactly great at her job but she definitely tries hard. And with her new partner from outer space she ain't giving up. Meanwhile 3 roommates get a job with a weird government agency, a foreign construction worker is forced to be the love slave to the embodiment of the universe (a vortex with slender womanly arms) and a man with an afro gets into all sorts of weird messes that remain unexplained. And this is only the tip of the iceberg to this hilariously twisted series!

This show is one of my favorites. It is insane. It pokes a lot of fun at many "conventions" seen in a lot of anime, and breaks down the fourth wall repeatedly with a wrecking ball. The main character not only dies at the beginning, but several times over. It even pokes fun at the original manga and author, who wanted the anime to have a completely different storyline and let Watanabe do pretty much whatever he wanted, and Rikudo loves the anima conversion. Part of his intro in every episode was to parody the frustration manga artists have at the anime conversions of their work. One must be wary that one's creations don't consume them.

A few of the characters, and I'm really not spoiling anything as much of this is known by the first couple of episodes, while not even beginning to fully touch upon the full weirdness of this show (some you wouldn't want to touch anyways):
Excel - The stereotypical scatterbrained heroine suspiciously similar to a few we've seen before. Just like those, she doesn't get shot enough to satisfy the viewer.
Hyatt - The stereotypical sickly or frail girl. But with a twist.
Ilpalazzo - With his minions doing all his work for him (hah!), he turns towards more mundane tasks in his unoccupied time.
Menchi - The emergency food supply...err, dog of the team.
The Great Will of the Macrocosm - The being who makes sure everything goes wrong by restoring the story back to its usual insanity.
Pedro - Very NOOOOOOOOOOO! This guy gets screwed over, repeatedly. But it's for a good cause.
Nabeshin - When a director is allowed to put themselves into their work, they sometimes do. Not quite to this degree...
The Puchuus - Cute. Well, not really. Don't ask.
Cosette Sara - The obligatory cute child character. Or so it is assumed...

Many voice actors will probably be recognizable. Including the voice actress who did the voice for Sailor Moon as Excel in the Subbed version.

The director of the anime (Watanabe Shinichi) has a 'fro, just like his in-show alter-ego.

Here you go, datdudesketch and the rest of you looking for an absurd anime comedy that doesn't ever begin to take itself seriously. Enjoy!

(I do recommend the subbed version for first-time viewers because it includes all of the translations for the Japanese words shown in the series, which helps for understanding the silent Sumiyoshi and other text.)

(I haven't recently checked the above links except for a couple of episodes, but they were working last I knew about a week ago and still appear on Veoh through search. Since they are all by the same uploader except for the notorious ep 26, I assume they are still in working order. PM me if any are broken and I'll find a replacement link.)

Speaking of fanservice, this wouldn't be complete without the obligatory crotch shot.
