In July 1969 the space race ended when Apollo 11 fulfilled President Kennedys challenge of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth. No one who witnessed the lunar landing will ever forget it. Al Reinerts documentary For All Mankind is the story of the twenty-four men who traveled to the moon told in their words in their voices using the images of their experiences. Forty years after the first moon landing it remains the most radical visually dazzling work of cinema yet made about this earthshaking event.

I watched this again the other night, I've had it on DVD for a while, it's one of my favourite docs.
It's not about the science or the machines but about the human experience of what it feels like to go to the moon. With beautiful ambient music by Brian Eno, it's a serene, dreamlike film, unlike any other of the moon mission docs. One memorable scene of two astronauts jumping around the lunar surface as if in slow motion, laughing like children, will always stay with me.
Highly recommended, 5 stars.
