This is gotta be one of the greatest gangster movies of all time. The script does not falter for one second, the direction is incredible. Tahar Rahim as The Prophet should get the Oscar and this is the kid's first movie. In case some of you guys don't peek into the foreign movie section, this is a must see. Anyone else see it yet? Any thoughts?

I saw it yesterday and damn, what a film. I was engrossed for the whole two and a half hours straight. Tahar Rahim's acting is flawless and the film has a dark, gritty, realistic feel that draws you into it. I'm not usually that grossed out by movies but a scene in this movie had me shouting "oh f**k, s**t, f**k, oh damn, f**k." I highly recommend this movie.

What was the symbolism of Reyeb's back being on fire when he visited El Djabana some night? I dont get it. Any ideas?

I saw it again and even though it doesnt get better than seeing it for the first time, this time around I picked up more on how masterfully its written and directed. The only think I could think of with reference to the back on fire thing is that it might be an arab/muslim thing but thats pure conjecture on my part. Also, I really liked the "relationship" that develops between "Reyeb" and El Djabana. The first night after the death there s that struggle and after "Reyeb" remains with him but El Djabana seems to have come to terms with the violence he s done. I liked how that whole conflict in the soul aspect was done.

Great movie, the surreal bits seemed kind of out of place though.
