Not sure what kind of thread this would be, so I'm putting it here lol.
Anyway, I've been wondering how they were able to stop most movies from being released online until a couple months after its release. I remember up until not too long ago a DVD rip would be on the net the weekend of the release, sometimes sooner. When I was a kid I remember seeing a VHS copy of Rumpelstiltskin, if you remember that horror movie, right before or after it had came to theaters, as well as another movie that was attached to the video that I can't remember. Well I remember there being a disclaimer before the movie started that it was for "Theater Use Only" and the studios name would come up during the movie at some points as well as a clock and some scenes in black and white just like some screeners now. I assumed it was sent to theaters so they could decide if they wanted to pick it up or not, and never knew if they did that with all movies, or just the smaller ones they weren't sure people would come to see and didn't know how that works now.
I'm assuming the penalties have gotten a lot stricter for those within the business who are caught leaking films, which is why it takes so long. Are the rips released now taking longer because they have to wait for the film to be sent off to be pressed/screened for a DVD release or what?
BTW, getting to see a version like that of a movie was awesome BTW, and I wish I still had that video just as a keepsake. IMDB says it was released in '95 which would have made me 11 and would have been my first experience into pirating now that I think about it lol.
