Religious persecution of Christians reached its height as 500 churches were burned to the ground during the bitter North South Civil War in Sudan. Rising from the Ashes follows the people of South Sudan as they literally pull themselves up from the ashes to create a vibrant region in East Africa. They face staggering problems including the world’s worst child, infant and maternal mortality. Although billions have been poured into the local economy, heartbreaking corruption has kept much of it from reaching those who need it most. Amidst this chaos, we look at the efforts of an incredible humanitarian organization, Samaritan’s purse, as they build a core to these ravaged communities.
