Japan Sinks (2006)

aka - Nihon chinbotsu
aka - The Sinking of Japan
aka - Doomsday: The Sinking of Japan

IMDb Info. A Review Encode Info.

Plot:

QUOTE
Japan will sink down to the deep sea. The governments only hope is evacuate all Japanese to some other countries.
In the story, a collision of two of these plates results in an overlapping and dragging downward of a plate in accordance with tectonic currents. The strain placed on the plate is enough to shatter the actual landmass, sending it completely under the water. This strain is noticed by a team of scientists who make an initial prediction that the interaction will cause a full fledged sinking of Japan over the course of 40 years. Alas, bad math was involved, and the actual timeframe proves a mere 338 days. As earthquakes and floods rock Japan, it's up to a team of submariners and scientists to perforate the earth's crust through a series of drillings and strategically placed hydrogen bombs, in hopes of loosing Japan from its tectonic grip. The bulk of the film's story revolves around Toshio (Tsuyoshi Kusanagi), a heroic submarine pilot, and Reiko (Kou Shibasaki), a rescue worker and their experiences in the disaster wrought landscape.

Watch on Megaupload - Hardcoded Subs

Actual Screens:

( Note: this is my own re-encode/upload of a Matroska .MKV file with H.264 & AAC and external .ASS subs.
I hardcoded the subs, and tried to keep it as good a quality as possible while downgrading to XViD and MP3. Enjoy, it's a wonderful film. smile.gif )

Wow! Epic.
Well worth all your efforts to produce an outstanding conversion. emoticon-0137-clapping.gif
Thanks smile.gif

Note: English subtitle size and location
1. The subtitles are small and yellow colored when viewed using the DivX7 Player - Hard to read, and appear on top of the picture in full screen.
2. The subtitles are a little bigger, but white when using the VLC Media Player - Ok, but still a bit difficult to read, and appear on top of the picture in full screen.
3. The subtitles are medium/large, white with a nice black shaded background in the KMPlayer in small screen - Very easy to read. My eyes thank you.
The subtitles appear mostly below the picture in full screen when using the KMPlayer. Very nice. smile.gif

I tried editing the font size in the subtitles file, but it didn't make any difference in the Divx7 Player or VLC Media Player for the movie text.
The font size in the KMPlayer was good, so I didn't try changing the font size.

Thank you guys, I knew it'd be worth it. smile.gif

If anyone wants the original, I also upped THAT to MU too...just in case. But, subs are separate and not all players can read .ass subs. Obviously, I can't post it here, but I'd be happy to tell ya the MU addy for it and the subs if ya wish.

Thz bro, much appreciated. biggrin.gif
I knew you'd like it.

Weird mang..I tested the genny link b4 I posted it..even FS..and the sub were fine playing in the divx player. sad.gif

Here's how I see it in regular-detached-size, and FS divx Player looks the same.

I think of it this way; IMO, it's one of the best Japanese movies of the last decade, and the most expensive.
I've watched it multiple times now..heh...obviously...and it still hits me. That's pretty rare for me.

I've watched 1000's of movies and there isn't anything quite like it.
Yes, it's a remake of the 1973 movie version of the original Novel.
But...well...just watch it...just don't expect an "American Action Movie"...it's not.

It's a lot more than that.

Great movie, I enjoyed it a lot. Probably one of the best movies I've seen in a while. The acting was really good.. I really felt for the characters. The visual effects were stunning and I really liked the music.

The quality of the rip is decent for the size of the file and the length of the video. The subs in windows media player classic were just fine. I think the transparent subs are a good idea, I might try them in one of my next re-encodes.

Thanks again for your hard work and dedication. smile.gif
