This card was brutal. I hate the fact that the UFC puts out one good card out of about 3 events. This Card doesn't excite me at all.
You know, I sorta have to agree. This card was pretty mild, and I am amazed that so many people were stoked about it.
Sure, Couture, Nogueira, Silva and Jardine are amazing athletes and I love to watch them fight.... but this was an absolute contender placement card. No champions fighting, among half a dozen weight classes? I really don't want to sit through co-headline fights where there is very little at stake. Win or loose... the outcome is no big deal... and that makes for a very non-dramatic night of fights.
I will not talk about the winners, so I will put it in terms like this...
- Couture/Nogueira have little chance of beating Brock. Both guys are great, but are winding down (tho Nogueira's boxing was commendable). Brock only gets better, and has major momentum going into his title defenses.
- Silva/Jardine have little chance of beating Machita. I personally think that Silva poses a greater threat however, and his grappling might be the answer to the elusive Machita riddle.
.... so.... if the winners of these two co-headlining matches get their asses handed to them by the champs, then it made UFC 102 a complete waste of everyone's time. Not a smart bill.
Having said that, there were some fantastic moments that only champions of this caliber can conjure up. I do not want to sound like a total crumb-bum.
