Hey all,
So I just finished IMDB's top 250. A list that I printed out about 2 years ago (before i lost my original) and finished it today by watching the Exorcist. As you all know this list constantly changes and so I started thinking about it a little more.
I wish I knew who was actually for voting for some of the movie on the list. Granted a vast majority of the movies were fantastic but there are definately films that are either on my list or on the list now that I don't think should be there. For example, In Bruges is on the list at number 204 with 73,000 votes and even though i do think it was a good movie when you see it only two behind a film like the battle of algiers which has 11,000 votes you can get an idea that these older movies aren't being watched. I feel as if many of the votes are coming from people who don't really have a diversified movie background. There is nothing wrong with the casual movie goes but if they vote for a movie I think they should also consider giving movies of the past a chance.
What I am thinking is that many of these votes are coming from people in the age range of 16-25 and haven't seen some of the great films of yester year. Granted I am only 20 but I feel like this top 250 list will eventually be overrun with movie from 1993 and on as they lost touch with these old classics.
Do any of you have thoughts about this?
