Wow, I was really looking forward to this one. I am a huge fan of female boxing, kickboxing and MMA. I also LOVE Cyborg. Gina is a great fighter as well.
It has been difficult watching the clumsy transition that America has made towards woman's fighting. Woman professionally fight almost everywhere where men fight, except for in America where such a thing is a huge rarity.
Even the American fans and media need to grow up, a lot. Gina is a decent looking woman, and the media and fans have taken that fact to ridiculous levels. These women are FIGHTERS, not supermodels or actresses. They are not objects, so therefore aspects such as beauty are meaningless. These are real deal MMA fighters. Treat them with some respect and let them fight without the vanity hype. If you wanted to watch a beauty pageant then you are watching the wrong channel.
We do not care how good looking Wanderlei Silva or BJ Penn are... so why Gina Carano? Just be into these fighters because of their fighting... which is how we treat the guys. People are actually saying shit like "Gina is prettier so that's why I want her to win". What, are we five years old again? If you think this way, then go wrap up your hands and put on a pair of gloves and train for 5 hours a day and tell me if good-looks has ANYTHING to do with that.
MMA is one of the last places in entertainment where you can be as ugly as you want and still be lovingly embraced by millions. That has improved the self-esteem for thousands of people who watch and compete in MMA. I for one am not going to let anyone take that away.
