I remember this video from a long time ago called beyond the mind's eye. Really trippy stuff for the time period, probably looks like garbage cgi now

Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of "good" science fiction out there. Here are my ideas of what the science fiction genre should strive to emulate:

Contact IMDB
Blade Runner (directors cut) IMDB
12 Monkeys IMDB
Strange Days IMDB
Firefly (tv series) IMDB and Serenity (the movie sequel) IMDB
Taken (tv mini-series) IMDB
Johnny Mnemonic IMDB
Push IMDB
Pitch Black IMDB

They key for me is that the setting and plot seem plausible so we can relate and that the climax or conclusion is not too fantastical to believe. Too often science fiction goes too far and becomes unbelievable. Or they aren't able to do the above on a shoestring budget.

I wish there was a new genre of science fiction named "science fact", where the story limits its use of science to proven facts or accepted theories.
