Full Version: Jaw Droppers

I'm sure a topic along these lines has existed before my time, I see none currently running. I'm always interested in what other people view as the most amazing movie scenes, or in cases like me, game scenes. A scene that shocks you to the core, or tugs at your heart.

My particular interest with things of this nature stems from the fact that I am a music composer, teacher, performer, and have also been working on my own fantasy novel for more than a decade. As such, I'm always curious as to what things most moves the masses. My goal is to not simply write a story for you to read. It's to craft one you can feel.

So, without more of my blabbering...

3:10 to Yuma and The Prestige both end with a punch to the gut. I do enjoy being doubled over from movies like those.

As for games, MGS 4... I found it very difficult to pull the trigger on The Boss.

Have at you.

I realize after posting that this is probabley better suited to the discuss movie forum.

The original saw movie was a jaw dropper for me. The ending was superb!!!

Lars Von Triers' AntiChrist. That'll drop yer Jaw. Amazing music also, particularly the Black & White Non Dialogue Opera Music scenes.

Stanley Kubricks' 2001: A Space Oddessy. For a true experience of this film its best watched on a cinema screen with Loud music. That 60 seconds of darkness as 'thus spake zarthustra' plays. There is fine detail for music in this film... *kisses fingers* C'est Magifique.

hmmm...

Games-wise...

Fallout 3; Epic Post Nuclear-apocalyptic wasteland survival, graphic design of the game is modern take on the 1920's-1950's graphic design and art-deco, the music is a selection of haunting jazz and novelty doo wop. Build your own guns, And Survive!

Good Huntin

Jaw dropping film would be Day Of Anger (1967) The movie is pure awesome, from start to finish. The Main Characters make the movie great, and the music, dialogue and the action make this movie probably my favourite Spaghetti Western. Below is one of my favourite scenes from the movie.

The Day of Anger (1967)

Lee Van Cleef: Do you want to earn a dollar, take my horse to the stable.

Giuliano Gemma: Yes Sir.

Lee Van Cleef: What's your name?

Giuliano Gemma: Scott.

Lee Van Cleef: Scott what?

Giuliano Gemma: Only Scott, because my mother.. I never did know her.

Lee Van Cleef: And what was her name?

Giuliano Gemma: Her first name was Mary.

Lee Van Cleef: Mary? It's as good as any other name, why not call yourself Scott Mary?

Giuliano Gemma: They'd all laugh at me, if I said my name was Scott Mary.

Lee Van Cleef: So what? Who knows for sure whether they'd laugh at it?..... When you get my horse settled come on over to the saloon and get your dollar... My name's Talby.

That scene doesn't seem particularly jaw dropping, but maybe I'm missing something.

For me it would have to be the fire extinguisher scene from Irreversible, the scissors scene from Inside, or the abrupt shooting at the end of Los Bastardos.

I'm not sure if you've seen Day of Anger beneboi. The scene I posted before isn't exactly call jaw dropping on its own, what it does is set up the tone of the movie... The whole movie however is jaw dropping, well in my opinion anyway. smile.gif

Here is a link to the full movie so you can check it out yourself if you havent seen it: Day Of Anger (1967) Full movie [DivX]

Jaw dropping?

how about, the reveal in Fight Club; the "We're gonna need a bigger boat" moment from JAWS, the opening of A New Hope (after the text), Nightmare on Elm Street, The end of Crank (1), King Kong vs 3 T-Rex's, the T-Rex in Jurassic Park 1... those stick out most in my mind.

Favorite ones are definitely the end of Fight Club and Saw 1. There was also The Usual Suspects where your just like > emoticon-0112-wondering.gif, emoticon-0104-surprised.gif and then willy_nilly.gif

The movie is a jaw dropper, not just the scene on its own.... oh nevermind lol. It is a great movie though, probably Van Cleef's Best imo. smile.gif
