Well, I think there are at least two movies deserving this title. These are Terminator 4 and Transformers 2. What do you think?
P.S. To moderators: sorry for possible writing to a wrong category but I didn't find any other category for general chat.

yes i think thats a failing of the forum - how about including 'discuss movies' in the section when you are not logged so people can see it?
at the moment you have to be logged to see that it exists and then its right down the bottom - is there a reason behind that?

Ummmm, the discuss movies section is at the very top of the movies subforum, and you do not have to be logged in to see it at all. So, I guess your wish is granted.

I felt so far this year; it has been a horrible flow of movies. The best one I seen was Star Trek, and it alone. I really hope this summer season actually gets some good movies.

9, district 9 ...im just kidding
i'd say UP for overall best movie so far, it has humor, happiness, sadness, and a funny boyscout.
there were other movie i loved and may have enjoyed more but on the overall scale this seems to make sense to me (prob. something to see come oscar time)
whereas other movies i would mention would be hangover, watchmen, im hearing amazing things about harry potter, and star trek is the only one i havent seen that i hear is great but yea...

the new trailer for district 9 completely lost my interest, they were marketing it as a more political minded sci fi, and in the new trailer its all giant mechs and action. up was really good although not really movie of the year material. antichrist was ...interesting
im gonna go see moon tomorrow which should be really good, and im really looking forward to the imaginarium of dr parnassus

Sarcasm? :/
Transformers 2 so far for me... that said there hasn't been much to choose from - pretty lame year so far for movies, what with Watchmen and Star Trek being absolute fails. As a fan of the old Star Trek/Watchmen Comics.

Watchmen, hands down. StarTrek, The International, and The Hurt Locker are among my favorites this year.

Yes - Since 90% of the releases this year have been awful. Seen as I throughly enjoyed this movie and the reviews it got were fantastic also - I don't see a problem.
It's not as if I'm kidding myself saying Xmen, Rise of Lycans or Watchmen were contenders - As all were awful. The Hangover was a quality picture.
Reading your movie of the year vote in Moon - The Hangover got basically the exact same ratings - Go figure.

transformers 2 whilst i thought it better than the 1st wasn't a touch on some releases this year.
terminator 4 i never worked out why it got so many bad reviews i enjoyed it muchly.
state of play was a gem and ice age 3 was possibly the funniest of the 3 so far
but for me H2 will steal the show, on august the 28th Rob zombie made a fantastic effort with H1 and i can't wait for the continuation.

not true at all, hangover has a 79% on RT and Moon an 88%. The Hangover was a throwaway comedy that won't be remembered in 5 years, however Moon is a scifi gem that will become a classic for years to come.

Overall review ratings around the web give both movies 8.3.
Lol at taking RT word for it also... last time I checked that site Toy Story 2 was being quoted as the best movie ever made....
Edit - Top critics gave Moon 67% by the way, compared to The Hangovers 75% - That's if you wanna take RT word for it.

my bad tams, i should research a little deeper before debating next time, however i still feel that Moon is a much much more worthy contender than a flavor of the month comedy, but this is still way to early in the year to start calling something movie of the year, we still have yet to see Avatar, Shutter Island, The Road, The Wolfman (with benecio del toro and anthony hopkins) Where the Wild Things Are, Lovely Bones, Inglorious Bastards, The Surrogates and im sure there are plenty more.

I'm a sucker for comedys is all - It all comes down to personal liking at the end of the day - Best is judged on what we think is best to our personal liking.
I've not seen Moon yet btw. Sam Rockwell is a decent actor. I liked him in Snow Angels.

Movie of the year so far for me is 'Bronson'
(If it did come out this year not last)
Amazing, Loved it, Soundtrack and dialog alike, Excellent film.

Bronson was indeed this year, and it was a good movie, felt a bit too much like Chopper in some ways and I didn't like it as much.
