I just went and saw Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince midnight showing! I thought the movie was really well done. The dirrecting was good, the video effects were amazing, and even the acting improved since the previous movies. I think it is the best Harry Potter yet. I was just wondering what you guys here thought of it. Please only comment if you've seen the movie already, no "OMG, I can't wait to see it!!"

I'm not saying that it improved a lot, it just seemed better than that of the 5th, but i especially liked the special effects and visual stuff

ok so i just finished watching it and half to say i did thoroughly enjoyed it. although i can't remember much from the book (it has been a while) i think there might have been a significant fight scene missing near the end, unless it is in the next book. bmy experience with the movie sucked cause i saw it at a crappy theater with a small screen, blurryish visuals and an overall shitty non-surround sound speakers. i did like this movie better than the others simply for the fact that it was straight forward, the 4th book was my favorite and i was disappointed with the movie. while this movie did have its ups and downs you can tell there was some maturing overall and i look forward to the last movie. if you haven't read the books or are not a fan of the series then this probably wouldn't be your cup of tea, fyi

If you thought it was anything other than amazing, then obviously this isnt your type of book and/or movie genre. Best movie yet - but on the comedic side but still held the dark side. Was a bit disappointed with the way they portrayed certain things in the movie since that wasn't how it went down in the book - but i'm not a director, producer or writer so there must be reasoning behind it.
Saw the midnight showing - will probably see it again Sunday...And of course anticipating it coming up here.

Wow is all I can say.. there wasn't a sniff of action in argubly the most action packed book, what with the HUGE fight which SHOULD have been displayed at the end of this movie - They missed it out completely.
Absolute fail - It would be like Peter Jackson missing out the Battle of Minas Tirith or Helms Deep from Lotr...
So glad I never went to see this at pictures - Directors these days, what a pile of shit.

I can assure you I'm a huge fan of the books - I've read them like 4 times each - and this movie was such a let down. Like I said above - It's impossible to miss out the huge fight in the end of this book and call the movie a success.
I don't see any reasoning behind it at all.. simply unforgiven.

I heard somewhere that someone in the production team did not want to put the end fight scene in because they have this epic battle planned for the end of DH and they did not want to make it seem like both movies ended with a battle to ensure DH ends different or something.
Sounded lame to me, i would have loved to see the battle they had in the book.

Yeah same mate, it's just silly. I don't see the logic in the production team if that were the case.. all they have to do is follow the books, especialy key parts of the book which people would pay good money to see at the cinema.
Watching the movie it felt uncomplete at times - rushing through keys parts, especially the memory scenes. As it went along all i was thinking about was the fight at the end - To see Neville slugging it out with a few deatheaters while harry runs after malfoy down the corridors in Hogwarts - Instead we got a pityful scene in which Harry, and Harry alone chasing 5 death eaters through a ghostlike Hogwarts and get slapped about by Snape.
Unforgiven.

yea the lack of the fight was disappointing. I wonder if they actually did film it and will be put on the deleted scenes when the DVD comes out...that would be awesome ( until everyone watches it and sees why they deleted it lol).
im hoping though they filmed it

WOW..just wow...So glad i did not go to the show to see this sadly disappointed the book was GREAT the movie was sorry to say lame. I re-read the book before watching and what a let down . Not enough action and they hardly matched up at all. And had to wait and extra year to see it. Hope the last one is not as lame. But all in all happy to have finally seen it.
Uncompleet is a good way of putting it for parts

i just saw the movie. i loved it. yea i realize they left out some 'key' scenes but they had to leave out some scenes. u cannot take everything from the book and put into a movie. the movie would be insanely long. cant wait for the next 2

The Lord of the Rings would be the perfect counter measure to that comment.
Surley leave out some of the boring stuff (3/4 of the film) and put in the fight?
Worst of the lot for me.

As always, thanks ladyhawk and everybody else for another great post, but is it just me or is this movie not quite as good as the other 5 movies? I watched it and have to admit was practically bored all the way through, was expecting more excitement and have to admit was very disappointed overall, again thanks for posting anyway.

I thought it was the best movie of the series. But then again, I've never been a Harry Potter fan.

As an avid Harry Potter fan (

) I found it a let down. But as an average watcher a good watch.
They left out so much, I know they can't fit in the full book, But they also added unnecessary scenes and changed some of the facts from the book.
The special effects were amazing as usual.
I think Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets was darker than this movie.

I didn't read this book, so I couldn't compare it like I could the other movies. But it felt too short to me, I mean a lot happened but it felt like more needed to happen. But I guess I always complain about not enough potter.. Maybe I should read the book? What did they leave out? Think it will be covered in the next movie?

If I were you I'd definitely read the book(s). The next and last book is going to be split into two films, So hopefully a lot more info added to the movies! Now the wait is on till the next movie!

The movies are absolute hidious compared to the books, and that's a fact. I suggest you pick the books up.
They basiclaly left out a HUGE fight at the end, in which Harry and Dumbledore's Army, from book 5, have a slugfest with several Death Eaters in the corridors of Hogwarts, just before Snape kills Dumbledore.

This was a huge let down for me too.
I do realize that some moments of a book can't make it into the movie. But the key moments should be there.
On top of that they added moments that aren't even in the book and serve no purpose. For example the battle and burning down of the Weasley house. They just took out part of the last book and this battle never took place in the book.
Where Harry hid the book in the room of requirements is also a mistake that will alter events in the last movie/book.
And the the battle. That should have been in there. It's the one part of that book that got your hear pumping. Sure, there will be a bigger battle in the last movie but this movie needed the battle too. The sneak peak of the "Big death eater" the book mentioned a few times. Hagrid's brother coming the the rescue, Buckbeak coming to the rescue. All these things are parts of the book that I really looked forward to seeing on film.
And instead of Harry being frozen and invisible while Dumbledore is killed. He stands there watching with his wand in hand like an idiot.
They took out the key moments and added moments that weren't in the book at all. That pointless chase just before the Weasley house caught fire could have given them time for the battle at the end.

A short review -
Boring movie. They tried to up the pace in this, with Harry immediately being whizzed off with Dumbobore, but it wasnt anything spectacular. The whole movie is just story telling. It kind of felt as though it was...rushed? Anyone else think that? Nevertheless, watch this on an afternoon rather than a night, otherwise youre gonna wanna watch something else to fill the void...especially if youre an action junkie like me!!
I think i know why this was such a boring movie, the last book is going to split into two movies (obvious money making - excuse being keep the legacy going) and i believe, or i am hoping, that the last two movies are full of fast paced action and adventure, with Harry and his posse being whizzed off to various parts of the world in search of whatever it is they are searching for.

I loved it, my second favorite HP movie. #1 would be Azkhaban.
I loved the soundtrack (although John William's Azkheban score still remains my fav), the script, the cinematography and thought that for such a magical book, it was adapted into a wholly entertaining and rather moving film. It was pretty dark too and I think that works wonderfully for this series (I didn't really like the first HP).
Also, and maybe this just strikes a chord on a personal level, I thought Emma Watson and Rupert's take on the romantic scene was pretty freakin' impressive. I was in both of their shoes in high school and felt they accurately portrayed both sides.
Emma's got a lot of potential and she just keeps getting hotter and hotter

.
My only gripe is that I would have loved to see more magic and special effects.
All in all, great movie.
