Being an avid American viewer, my favorite thing about this show is that they are amateur cooks without formal education. That they can do any of these complicated recipes (even with step-by-step instructions in front of them) in the limited time astounds me...better yet, this reality show isn't full of the drama and intergroup conflict that plagues most of American reality programming. All of the contestants seemed very genuine and very normal, makes me want to meet more Australians!
I agree, the show stayed fun and interesting without all the back-stabbing drama.

I like both Poh and Julie - they both seem like wonderful people. I like Poh's use of "foreign" ingredients - the century egg for example is pretty common in Chinese influenced cooking, it smells horrible but mmm in congee - forget about it! And there would be absolutely nothing wrong with the first Masterchef winner being a Mom who cooks for her family!!!!
Don't get me wrong they are both good at what they do, I just feel others were more deserving. I'm sure everyone has their favorites. I have no problem with Julie winning because she is a "Mom who cooks for her family", but I disagree that she should win. Hell, she cooks better then my mother did, but I feel others had much more skill. Poh is a great chef, although she goes a little to exotic and extreme for me. In the end it doesn't really matter, I think all the people in the top 20 will have the chance to make something happen after the show. So congrats to whoever the winner is and thanks for the entertainment. Now, I'm off to watch the next episode that RaggedVixen posted.
