Let me start now by posting the latest tutorial for softmodding the Wii. Here it is:
INSTALL HBC ON VIRGIN 4.0 WII (works on lower versions too, you can use the guide here to update to 4.1 after you install HBC)
Download "phpgeek-4.0.rar" from one of the mirrors below. This file contains everything else you will need to get the Homebrew Channel installed on a VIRGIN 4.0 Wii. You can update to the latest firmware via the Nintendo method if you haven't installed anything yet. Do not update via the Nintendo method after installing stuff. Use the update guide I posted after this HBC guide. It is much safer to update via the method here because you won't lose your installs or brick your Wii.

These instructions assume that you DO NOT have a Wii with a serial number that STARTS with LU64/LU65! If you do then you need the LU64 fix. It is located in the Softmii3finally file located below in the Fix A Fully Bricked Wii section. It is also assumed that you have NO disc in your Wii, you have REMOVED all GameCube Memory Cards and Controllers, have copied EVERYTHING from this rar file to the ROOT of your SD Card (maintaining the directory structure) and that your SD Card does NOT have any other files on it! Your Wii also NEEDS to have an ACTIVE INTERNET CONNECTION in order to complete some of the steps. Finally, please make sure that your SD Card is actually inserted into your Wii BEFORE you proceed.
This method uses the BannerBomb dol loading exploit and NOT the Twilight Hack.
Instructions:
1. Enter Wii Settings, click on "Data Management", click on "Channels" and then finally on "SD".
2. Choose "Yes" to load the "boot.dol" in the root of your SD Card which is the "LoadMii" app.
3. Press "A" on your Wiimote, scroll down to "DVDX.dol" and press "A" again, which will load the "DVDX Installer".
4. Select the "Downgrade IOS35" option at the top, run the downgrader and then exit back to "LoadMii".
5. Scroll down to "WMIOS35.dol" and press "A", which will load a custom version of "Wad Manager 1.3".
6. Choose the SD Card and scroll down to "IOS35-64-v1040.wad" and press "+" to install it. Once it has been installed press the "Home" button to go back to "LoadMii".
7. Scroll back down to "WMIOS35.dol" and press "A", which will load the custom version of "Wad Manager 1.3" (using the IOS35 that you just installed).
8. Choose the SD Card and scroll down to "CIOS36-R9.wad" and press "+" to install it. Once it has been installed press the "Home" button to go back to "LoadMii".
9. Scroll down to "CIOS36R10.dol" and press "A", which will load "Custom IOS Installer". Press "A" to install CIOS36-R10 and then exit back to "LoadMii".
10. Scroll down to "WMIOS35.dol" and press "A", which will load the custom version of "Wad Manager 1.3" (using the latest IOS249 that you installed in step 9).
11. Choose the SD Card and scroll down to "IOS36-64-v1042.wad" and press "+" to install it. Once it has been installed scroll down to "IOS60-TRUCHA.wad" and press "+" to install that too. Finally, scroll down to "HBC.wad" and press "+" to install the Homebrew Channel. Press the "Home" button to go back to "LoadMii" and then restart your Wii.
Optional Step:
12. Click on the Homebrew Channel and load "IOS Downgrader 1.0". Run the downgrader and then restart your Wii.
Notes:
If at anytime you cannot return to the "LoadMii" app then just repeat steps 1 and 2 and then continue where you left off! The reason you're installing CIOS36-R9 as a WAD and then CIOS36-R10 via the Custom IOS Installer is because you want a backup copy of it in slot IOS250 (fail safe). The reason you're using a custom version of Wad Manager 1.3 and not the latest 1.4 is because it auto-detects the correct IOS to load instead of having to select them manually - plus it's much less likely to bomb out with a stack dump whilst installing CIOS36-R9. It's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you complete the optional step 12 as this will give you a full set of TRUCHA enabled IOS's. The Wad Manager program found in the apps folder is the latest version (1.4) with a few custom modifications. It will probably be your most frequently used app.
You will also need "NeoGamma" and "rev13a". Download them from the links below and copy them to your SD card. These are what allows you to play your backup games. Make sure you install these last after the above files. You also need to be online with the Wii for "rev13a" to be installed. The rev13a is a file that you need to play new games like Indiana Jones And The Staff Of Kings.

Congratulations, you're done!!
There you go everyone. It's an easy tutorial and you most likely won't have any problems if you follow this tutorial exactly. Please post any games you have for the Wii that aren't here already.
Here's a small tutorial for updating your Wii to 4.1 if you want to do so after installing HBC. Do so at your own risk. If you don't follow these guides exactly then you can possibly brick your Wii. I DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IF YOU BRICK YOUR WII. YOU ARE DOING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. Here is the update tutorial:

Below is a 14 step tutorial for if you accidentally get a full brick on your Wii. A brick can happen if you don't install files correctly.
How to fix a Fully Bricked Wii:
1. Download these files:
DowngradePackv3
CODE
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?miklyyammmo
Softmii3finallyCODE
http://rapidshare.com/files/249033711/Softmii3finally.rar
2. Place all the files from the above links on the root of the SD card.3. Create a folder called BannerBomb for the boot.dol file, which is in the DowngradePackv3, and place that folder in the Apps folder and place the boot.dol file in it.
4. Insert the SD card into the Wii and turn it on to get Bootmii and boot into HBC from there. The wiimote doesn't work on Bootmii. You have to press the power button to highlight the HBC and then press select to access the HBC.
5. You can access BannerBomb from the HBC and from there follow steps 6-8 for downgrading and installing the Wii firmware.
6. On the Wii, launch BannerBomb, then go to "downgradetools" in the SD and choose notDVDX34.dol. Pick "Downgrade IOS35", wait for it to end and come back to the menu, then exit.
7. Launch PatchMii IOS Downgrader.dol.
8. This step will take a while to complete (you have to monitor it) but it is worth the wait to fix a bricked Wii. When it says "IOS 249 (Revxx) loaded successfully", install all of the IOSes except IOS35 (with trucha patch). If a IOS doesn't install correctly it will stop the entire installation. Remember which IOS didn't install. Start from step 7 again and just skip all the other IOSes to get back to the IOS that failed and install the rest from there. Don't install system menu 3.2 but install system menu 4.0. MAKE SURE that its IOS has been installed correctly:
- System Menu 4.0 requires IOS60
9. Install preloader from the HBC as you will need it to make the Wii automatically boot into the system menu.
10. Turn off the Wii. Turn it on and immediately press and hold the select button. This will let you access Preloader.
11. Go to the settings of Preloader and make it boot into the system menu.
12. Press the B button to get back to the Preloader main menu and then select the system menu option to bootup your Wii.
13. You may or may not have to reinstall any backup loader you may have had before your Wii was bricked.
14. Your Wii is now fixed!!!
ENJOY EVERYONE!!!
