Ah, 'a short summary' eh? Ok. I will try. But it can be hard without spoilers.

Chasseurs de dragons (2008)
Dragon Hunters (International: English title)
IMDb

Splendid animated tale of an awaking evil in a mystical universe. The animation is imaginative and fascinating. The story goes from the sublime to the ridiculous. A young princess goes out to find and face this evil, with the help of a couple of mercenaries.

El laberinto del fauno (2006)
Pan's Labyrinth (International: English title)
IMDb

This one is difficult to describe. Set during the Spanish Civil War, i.e. the warm-up for WW2, a young girl's widowed mother marries a rather unpleasant officer. The young girl retreats farther and farther into a fantasy realm. One of the Faun....and more. This fairy tale is most assuredly not for the kiddies. Written and Directed by Hellboy's Guillermo del Toro, it is deeply disturbing at times. Visually, it is amazing.

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)
IMDb

The battle of Iwo Jima told from the Japanese soldiers point of view. Directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Ken Watanabe, what more need be said?
Much better than the companion piece "Flags of Our Fathers," which told of the men who raised the flag etc.

The Queen (2006)
IMDb
Helen Mirren as the Queen does an excellent job. The story is accurately told and for me the most pleasant surprise was Underworld and Frost/Nixon's Micheal Sheen as Tony Blair. Sheen is a British Kevin Spacey. He disappears on screen and become the part.

Juno (2007)
IMDb
Ellen Page (I recommend seeing Hard Candy. But it was before 2006 I believe) does a great job. Almost too good in fact. But the supporting cast is spot on. They all had the same vision of this film so it doesn't feel disjointed. As many films of this type do. it isn't episodic at all, thank god.

I'm sorry if what I wrote is garbage.

Kabaal
Could we perhaps get a short summary of why you all like each film? I know that i certainly don't watch recommended films just because they are in a list.

Yeah. If you're going to have a thread like this then it should be limited to one movie per post.

For instance. I quite enjoyed Real Time IMDB
Its about a loser and a hitman spending an hour together before the hitman intends to kill him. Its funny, but not a comedy.
nightingales
The Wrestler (2008), no question

Nick And Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0981227/
That guy from arrested development, always funny

Death Race (2008)
Terminal Island, New York: 2020. Overcrowding in the U.S. penal system has reached a breaking point. Prisons have been turned over to a monolithic Weyland Corporation, which sees jails full of thugs as an opportunity for televised sport. Adrenalized inmates, a global audience hungry for violence and a spectacular, enclosed arena come together to form the 'Death Race', the world's biggest, most brutal sporting event.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452608/
Fun movie, its like they made a movie about twisted metal or something lol

Shooter (2007)

Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg), a former Marine Corps sniper who leaves the military after a mission goes bad. After he is reluctantly pressed back into service, Swagger is double-crossed again. With two bullets in him and the subject of a nationwide manhunt, Swagger begins his revenge, which will take down the most powerful people in the country.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0822854/
AMAZINGG action movie, reminded me a little of bourne series

300(2006)

King Leonidas and a force of 300 men fight the Persians at Thermopylae in 480 B.C.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416449/
I've heard people say they hate this movie, but i loved it.

Lucky Number Slevin (2006)

A case of mistaken identity lands Slevin into the middle of a war being plotted by two of the city's most rival crime bosses: The Rabbi and The Boss.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425210/
Pretty good movie, got a hitman and kind of twist ending lol.. i enjoyed it

The Number 23 (2007)

Walter Sparrow becomes obsessed with a novel that he believes was written about him. As his obsession increases, more and more similarities seem to arise.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0481369/
Suspenseful, Jim Carey in a serious role... surprisingly good i thought

Enjoy smile.gif
sm0key
how to lose friends and alienate people

just watch it. the previews and the reviews, and the synopsis
don't really do it justice. its worth a look. not what i thought it
would be at all.

Queercore? rofl

i would recommend

Jesus Camp - scary documentary about crazy christian kids
A Scanner Darkly - adapted from a great phillip k dick novel, works well even with keanu
Los cronocrímenes - interesting suspense/time travel movie
No Country For Old Men - friend-o
Idiocracy - its by the guy that directed office space, and created beavis and butthead and king of the hill. nuff said.
Hot Fuzz - shaun of the dead team scores again
The Proposition - great western set in the australian outback, has a somewhat sergio leone feel
The Fall - beautiful, beautiful movie. watch this. right now. seriously
Sunshine - seems like sci fi has fallen on hard times of late, but this is a somewhat overlooked gem in the vein of 2001 or Solaris
Eastern Promises - fucking cronenberg, cmon man
Planet Terror - in my opinion the superior of the two grindhouse movies. plowing through zombies with a helicopter never tasted so sweet.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - amazing cinemtography, and an excellent score. its long and probably boring to most, but i loved it.
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead - unnerving tale of two brothers, phillip seymour hoffman is great in this.
Synechdoche, NY - another great phillip seymour hoffman role, however its the director charlie kauffman that really shines here
The Man From Earth - another obscure sci fi, check it out if you enjoy a deeper and more introspective look into the normally pulpy genre of science fiction

Greetings All. I have decided to unpin this topic in favor of the "Rate the Last Movie You Saw" topic as that one seems to get a lot more action and serves IMO essentially the same function. Of course everyone can still use this topic possibly for more in depth descriptions of films and for lists of films. I welcome any discussion regarding this decision here in this thread. RobinBanks.

Hey HatedMenace. Holy crap, your comedy list nailed every movie I cant stand. Talk about different tastes lol.

Let The Right One In is the consummate movie in my opinion. The dream like snowy landscape lands itself perfectly to a story about a mysterious little girl who befriends a lonely boy. Reading the preceeding sentence one wouldnt think this is in many respects a macabre story full of gruesome murders (great FX). Incredible story on many levels, a must see for those who yet havent.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/lat_den_ratte_komma_in/r

(I put a link to Rotten Tomatoes instead of IMDB cause I noticed IMDB is off so much in my opinion in terms of the reviews there. I generally agree more with the Rotten meter.)
Ruggerman
miaru--i would have to agree with part of your comment. that comedy list, for me, is only half ok, really my big disagreement would have to be the movie COLLEGE--i would never recommend that movie to anybody lol
