I just installed the latest version of VLC (0.9.8a) a couple days ago, so I thought I'd try them with it to see if it worked.
Apocolypto and Clubbed: the slider goes to the end and screen just saying 'Video loading...'
Babel and Night Train: both gave error message 'no suitable demux module found for [insert download link]'
Weird stuff, was hoping it would work for all as long as it was 0.8.6e or newer, but I guess not.
The Air I Breathe works fine though

OK, so I uninstalled the newer version and re-installed 0.8.6i (I still had that installer on my computer)
All videos work, including the mpg files. With the mpg I initially got an error message saying 'no suitable access module...' but I closed the error message and clicked the 'Click Me Watch Video' button and it started playing.

these MKV files are low bitrate. trying to stream high quality bitrate MKV files requires a host that can be used to stream. currently most hosts only allow about 1 gig for use. high quality MKV files are about "4.7gb to 7.7gb". thats almost unheard of when it comes to streaming

i'm going to cut the audio only part of the (720p) mkv file and reupload it to megaupload to make it stream. i'm only reducing the audio to make it under 1gb to stream with megaupload for obvious reasons? the other filehosts i tried make the video get stuck on the first few seconds! they are just too slow to stream a high quality MKV file?

i CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE PROGNOSIS IS FOR VLC. I would love to use it more often but it cannot use it to stream video. I am temporarily using chrome for a little while, I will go back to ie7 or 8 and hope that the active x actually works. I have struggled and felt inferior when using VLC because I simply could not get it to stream. good luck crew.

i love my VLC player, dont use anything else and i can play absoultly everything, and if the sound is off i just try diffrent codeac options and it never fails. I do hate the having to sync some movies but ok , begger cant be choosers. and i normally can get it in sync with the VLC. i did have one problem, just recently, i dont let it automaticly update anymore i do everything manully, my vlc player updated without me realiseing, it did that like a few weeks ago, and i realised something was wrong, cos i take screenshots of some films, to try to make make HDR photos out of them, and wen i screen shot, i didnt get a screenshot, i caputered the wole film, and if i tried to make it into a photo file, i just got black page. Yep something was up, i ripped the program off my puter and went bac to the VLC site and got a new version, and its as good as new.
i also dont have to DL any third party codecs from dubious sources, im glad to say, my vlc has so far played everthing. just about. Streeaming i dunno, i dont bother with it, i just DL.
YEAH I LOVE VLC

I've been reading up, and DivX7 CAN play .MKV and H.264/AAC.
http://labs.divx.com/book/export/html/6692QUOTE
High Definition H.264 and AAC (.mkv) playback
With DivX 7 comes new technology that enables playback of DivX Plus HD videos. DivX Plus HD is a new DivX video profile for MKV files containing high definition H.264 video and surround sound AAC audio. This means even better HD video playback in DivX Player and other DirectShow-based media players (for example, Windows Media Player and Real Player).
For more information on H.264 and why it has been added to DivX 7, take a look at our “What is H.264?” FAQ. Or, for some history and more technical details on how DivX has tested and developed our implementation of H.264, check out the Project Rémoulade page on DivX Labs.
MKV files
DivX Player will be able to play back H.264 video and AAC audio within the MKV file container (no audio-only files). The DivX Plus video profile in DivX 7 software also includes the DivX H.264 Decoder filter and the DivX MKV Demux filter. These DirectShow filters extend playback support for .mkv files with H.264 video streams to all DirectShow-based media players in addition to your DivX Player 7. (Note: The DivX MKV Demux filter does not override any other MKV file splitters installed.)
MKV is a file container that may contain a variety of formats, but most .mkv files contain H.264 video with AAC or MP3 audio. H.264 video in an AVI container can also be played back in DivX Player 7 as it can play back .mkv or .avi files with H.264 and AAC, but .mkv files containing other video or audio formats are not supported.
So, why not use your Generator to stream them through just using DivX7?
Seems you've done it before eh?

it will play on your desktop player, but will not work with the web player. divx7 only upgrades the desktop player.

Well, I guess so....I've never used it to stream anyway. I use my own player.
I did try something though...
Used this:
CODE
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=57REDF5R
Naruto Shippuuden 111 480P.mkv
It generated ok:
http://www.mrbrownee70.com/?id=VUJUTAH4JNo, it won't stream...but, it will download. I tested it.
Isn't that all that matters? i.e., Not directly linking to a file source for 'legal' reasons?
