I really enjoyed it. It was true to the motion comics but there were a few changes and a few things left out of course. One part they left out I was really looking forward to seeing. But all in all it was pretty good. I saw the midnight sneak preview last night. (Thursday the 5th) A solid 4 stars from me! Also from a few scenes in the movie it looks like there may be a directors cut out there somewhere to fill in some missing parts. As in they showed a couple of key people in the plot but did not go into their story line.

Ok, today was my second time around watching The Watchmen. I can say that I really liked. I think there was a lot of meaning to the movie. I do understand exactly why a lot of people are truly split over whether or not to like this movie. It really took the term "Superhero" and gave it a disturbing meaning. The characters were amazing in this movie. I think everyone expected Dr. Manhattan to steal the show (well he sort of did showing his man-goodies the majority of the time

), but Rorschach was my favorite of them all. He was very captivating to me, even for someone his size, he scared the crap out of me. He was a real bad ass. There was enough blood and gore for a horror movie. That part made me very happy considering I love horror movies. I think what I liked the kost was how Snyder (the director) did such a great job mixing real events in history with the fiction of the Watchmen. Very well done, the guy truly knows how to give a certain look and feel to a movie.
Oh for any parents that may read this, please DO NOT carry your kids to see this. I went to see this movie twice like I said and both times, the theater was full with both adults and kids that looked as young as five years old. Sure there were teens as well, but it is just really weird when there are toddlers watching what can pass for an almost NC-17 type movie.
But as a side note, let me also comment how happy I was to see a Superhero movie that really did not hold much back. Patrick Wilson (Night Owl) had the nicest backside

Zack Snyder did go the extra mile to make sure this movie fit exactly all that the Watchmen are famed for.
Overall, good movie in my opinion. I know some people have and will be disappointed (can't say why). The message did strike me in a way to make me start thinking about some things, believe it or not. There was a really nice depth to this movie and that is what I enjoyed the most about it.

SPOILERS
->Instead of seeing two detectives investigate the death of blake, we actually see Blake fight for survival.
->Instead of having the two detectives talk discuss the keene act, its told through a montage.
->Instead of Rorschach going to see Veidt they send Dan -- I cant figure why they decided to change that
->Didnt show Rorschach psychiatrist going off the deep end
->Didnt have the line where Dan compares them going against Adrian to regular people going against them
->Changed Vedit to a german, why not keep him American, there was nothing to be gained by doing it.
->They didnt show the death of Hollace Mason and Night Owls reaction
->The removed Veidts whole speech about Alexander the great.
->No hover bike scene
->The ending was changed
->>They did not put an emphasis on the destruction caused by the event (not even as much as the motion comic). Showing all those fight scenes but skimping on the nuclear holocaust
->>On the news report it was only Nixon on all channels rather than a cross of videos showing a wide spectrum of anchors going about the tragedy
->I prefer the motion comic over the movie. In the motion comic fights and sex were not emphasized, nothing against sex or violence I just dont think it added anything to overall movie, the sex scene went on too long and the "flamethrower" was just dumb. In the motion comic they didnt time specific era music (hated the 60's music -- the movie is set in alternate 80s), I especially hated the restaurant scene music. I would recommend the motion comic over the movie.

Hmm.
Well after years of wishing that movie producers would be more faithful to the source material I've finally seen a movie that was TOO faithful.
The dialogue should have been re-worked for the film.. It just didn't carry an emotional impact. Which is fair enough as it was written for a comic- which has artwork and various other tools to make it work...
The jokes in the prison didn't work, yet in the comic they are hilarious.. the part with the comedian and his Vietnamese girlfriend were just plain ridiculous.
Also, the point of the Watchmen is that the heroes are actually pretty crap at being superheroes.. yet of course Hollywood turns them into fighting machines..

Thanks for posting this movie.
I saw this on the IMAX and I have to say I wasnt overwhelmed by the blue penis. It wasnt that obvious and even my 3 year old looked at the Graphic Novel and saw the naked Dr. Manhattan and didnt bat an eyelid.
Just so you know...he was clothed initially in the GN but he took it off in a metaphorical sense as a release from the constrictions of the government that he was helping.
*sighs*
I guess you can figure who went there to watch the movie and who went there looking for some kind of erotic superhero movie.
Most of these comments miss the point in any event. This isnt a movie about SuperHeroes so if you're watching this hoping for Spiderman reloaded than you will not enjoy this at all.
Its a movie for those that are more maturally minded.
Its about the struggle of the ordinary person who becomes a Vigilante. Masks werent Superheroes. They were Vigilante types.
Dr. Mahattan wasnt a superhero...He was a Godlike figure in the book so if you are looking for "Crash", Bang and "Kapows" then this aint for you.
I dont usually post on here but being a true fan of the Graphic Novel...I cant allow to sit by while people to review something that really does neccessitate some thought processes.
If you can see it in the movie theatre..I really would. Its one of those movies that honestly needs to be seen properly. Dark Knight was that kind of movie.

This movie was soooo good it gave me chills. Which is sooo rare. Tingles down my spine of perfection.
Casting was great as well as the acting. Action is very awesome. As opposed to the comic which was lacking in it.
The comic dealt more with narration than actual action so this movie revamped it well. This is one of the very odd
occasions were I would say the movie was better than the book.
Basically well done!!!
I want to say the quality is terrible but I just can't. Since I was soo desperate to see this movie I will compromise all.

didnt like it as much as i had anticipated

only good character imho that i liked was Rorschach,he should have his own movie, dark and gritty character who stuck to his values..sweet...also - the sex scenes between Night Owl and Silk Spectre Two went on far to long for my liking....disappointing...heres hoping Xmen Origins: Wolverine will feed my superhero fix...

I dont think thats entirely true. I watched this at the Imax and I hardly noticed the nudity. I was too busy watching the movie. Then again Im British.

Haven't seen the big blue weenie as yet.. but as far as my fellow americans bein a bit immature about nudity.. must agree. I've seen full grown women and men turn kidlike in their giggles or in their anger over being embarrassed by their own feelings. This is what happens when you make something natural dirty or taboo.
All I can say is sucks to be them... and the reason why I keep my blue viened purple flurple in me pants unless around adults with mature adult values.
Forgot to mention.. I'v for some time now refuse to watch a cam copy of a movie I have expectations for.. will gladly wait until a dvd rip shows or will breakdown and pay for a theatre ticket... Complain about a cam copy if I've chosen to watch knowing what they are.. is just dumb.
mywifesapain
Mar 8 2009, 09:21 PM
One I think that's very prejudice to lump all americans about being immature, that sounds like a typical europeons statement about there superiority in matters of the world. I now will go and watch the movie cause I think a blue penis will be funny just as I would imagine benny hill would with his constant sexual humor(oh ya he was british).

I thought this was a very good movie, even a cam version. I liked this better than Sin City as far as the story goes and as far as a super hero movie goes this isn't one so don't expect the Fantastic Four when going to see this flick. IMO regarding Doc Manhattan's nudity, I didn't pay much attention to his junk. Of course I'm not gay so it's no big deal.
Now...the next one I'd like to see made is Frank Miller's
The Dark Knight Returns so I can see Batman kick Superman's tail.

Thanks so much for the posts...can't wait for the TS. Please hurry...

most movies don't have big blue penises in them.
I was shocked because there was more male nudity than female nudity.
Usually even softcore porn on late night tv doesn't show penises at all.
you can't expect people to not be shocked, it didn't appear just once.
I've decided I'm disappointed with the movie, I think it could have been great if there were 2 movies 1 h and 1/2 long. Some parts were fantastic, some parts made me stop focusing.
it was a lot to swallow in 2h 40.
I left confused, not about the story but did I like it or not.
and people in the theater didn't seem too impressed either.
And a lot of people were complaining about the length.
Just me or is the audio way out of sync on two new cams?

Overall a decent flick. There were parts that sort of dragged on a bit but it wasn't all that bad. I liked how the beginning of the movie told about the heroes history and what happened to them, that was cool.
One thing on the plus side for me, ( and this being because I'm a guy) was good that they didn't show Manhattan from the waist down when he was giant size!! I wouldn't have wanted to see a penis the size of a Volkswagen staring at me on the screen!!

The SNT links are only 40 mins each.. each one in a 2 part group... IMDB says the movie is 163 mins long. Is it me, or is like an HOUR missing from these links? I'm 50 min's in and it seems like there is ALOT missing..... ;(
