The End of America details the ten steps a country takes when it slides toward fascism. It’s not a “lefty”tot tome, rather a historical look at trends in once-functioning democracies from modern history that are being repeated in our country today. It gives any reader (or viewer of the lecture) a much-needed history lesson and constitutional refresher. Most importantly, it puts the recent gradual loss of civil liberties in the U.S. in a historical context. The average American might not be alarmed at AT&T selling our private information to the Bush administration, but when this action is seen as part of a larger series of erosions and events, a pattern emerges with unfortunate consequences that become disturbingly clear.

P.S. Progressive truth movements are progressively becoming money movements for personal gain. When info becomes income the ulterior usurps the altruistic every time.

First of all, this should probably be in documentaries because it's not a real movie. Secondly the woman narrating is increadibly un-American.

There's a million evil muslims out there that want to hurt the people in this country because they think Allah told them to. And if the patriot act prevents them from killing my family and neighbors, then I am all for it.

I got like 15 mins in to it and turned it off. It's really a bunch of BS.

Effin right 'arms' and another nutshelling to the rousing media rants swallowed whole - 'Pakistan's march toward militancy' along with a booming death toll tally of troops - headlining the daily dose. Not one 'newsy' making mention of America's intentional escalation in their bombing campaigns, including inside Pakistan (the step-ups began last year - Bush). Is their an overall connection? Is the 'news' just a reaction to our increase in this 'offensive', or is it really a so-told renewal of an increasing ""al-Qaeda"" terrorist threat? Whose security is really at risk, the American people or the financial well-being of the MIC and their profit losses with an Iraqi withdrawal? Long live homogenity heaven!

You forgot to put "al-Qaeda" in quotes smarrie. wink.gif

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Sorry Chikkah, you FAIL.

(FYI: I haven't seen this doc yet, but I have head speeches by the author. She is very intelligent. The only thing is that we are moving away from the Bush years so those who are just now learning about her stuff do not appreciate her. Check out her speeches on youtube. Very interesting.)

Edit: Chikkah, a question for you to ponder..."When we loose a freedom due to fear of a threat do we get that freedom back when the threat has passed?"

Naomi Wolf, author of 'The End Of America' suggests that we don't. Once we loose a freedom, we never get it back. That's why it's so important for people to wake up out of the stupid mind-control that most people operate under. It's not un-American to criticize corruption. Likewise endorsing the losss of our freedoms is not patriotic.

Watch the following video. It's called, 'The Shock Doctrine'.

People in power exploit tragedy and public fear in order to pass controversial laws, such as the Patriot act, laws that would have never passed had the tragedy not happened.

"Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (http://policyalternatives.ca) presents: Naomi Klein talks about her new book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism. Speaking at a benefit event for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, a social justice research institute. The Shock Doctrine is the gripping story of how America's "free market" policies have come to dominate the world-- through the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries."

If one of your family befriends a muslim, a moderate muslim that wouldn't hurt a fly, then you get a knock at the door, neigh, your door busted in. Then you and your family are arrested on suspicion of either being terrorists or supporting terrorism, would you then support the Patriot Act? So you say that you support the wholesale stripping of all your liberties for the sake of "security"? Would you be happy that your family is going to be monitored 24/7, your phone conversations listened to? Your private emails read?

What right will you freely give away next Chikkah? Your right to free speech? Your right to choice?

There's 30 million nutcase evangelists that want to do the same to muslims, moderate christians and non-believers all the same. Maybe you should be worried about them as well.
