"The 90 min HBO documentary on Addiction, going over addiction as a disease, how it cripples the lives of drug and alcohol abusers, and what cures and treatments are available for addicts. The documentary satisfies both agendas - of raising awareness and providing information. In the process, a fundamental understanding of how our brain works is established. I'm still quite curious about the different reward mechanisms in the brain and how the ones dealing with high release of dopamine is proportionally more addictive. Playing a videogame, indulging in certain foods and selectively jacking off to beastiality midget porn might not be so much of a disease as compared to the counterpart hard addictions involving substance abuse. My three examples would perhaps be examples of deeply formed, highly satisfying habits moreso than an addiction. I thought I'd mention and elaborate this as some of you on reading the first line might have gone : "Not all things we consider addictions should qualify as a disease". That is quite true, and this documentary actually reveals which cases ought to be considered as a disease; a neurological disorder that should not be confused with a lack of will power."
