**The news of Ubuntu are immense but not remarkable.
The big difference noticed is the management of safety, with a cleaner interface and better rendering of sources on the Internet and also on the navigation nautilus this version is more stable than when it was launched to 7.10.
The focus of Canonical was correct Bug'se bring with it greater credibility to the versions of Ubuntu.

One thing is evident, the system is more cumbersome. This can be solved by compiling kernel, but for a novice user this act may be somewhat disastrous.

Something very important in this version, is the management of permissions more robust and Vinegar (Manager Remote Administration) which is a great solution for those who need to access servers for VNC protocol.

There is also a new theme, not as handsome as the Cogito, but has something more pleasant to the web, the issue is the Human Murrine.

The OpenOffice was also optimized and has greatly improved performance.

There is also a novelty for Windows users to Canonical has an installer in this environment without affecting the system.**

Just wanted to agree with fig1
Been using Ubuntu for about 6 weeks now and have got nothing but praise for it.
Had been pondering about Ubuntu before but was still clinging onto my trusty XP Pro.
The opportunity arose when my PC got a nasty virus ( first major one in 5 years mind ) that nuked most my system files leaving me no alternative but to format back to factory settings.
I took the opportunity to create a dual boot of XP Pro and Ubuntu 8.04
Since then i have found me waining more and more towards this fantastic OS and i just love the way it allows you to create your own package exactly as you want it.
Learning more everyday but it is so user friendly, and trying out new apps is a breeze thanks to its built in ADD/REMOVE applications directory.
Regular updates (daily at min ) and loads of free apps.... wish i'd have tried it years ago. emoticon-0111-blush.gif

As it says in the advertising,
UBUNTU.... IT JUST WORKS

on my sony vaio ns series laptop it just works.
out of the box. video, audio, networking, special function keys
these days on ubuntu distros, based on what i've learned over
couple weeks, you don't really need to learn anything special
as an average user. it just works.
