Amanda Tapping is said to be focusing on her new sci-fi show "Sanctuary" and thus will be downgraded from regular to a recurring character. Which means someone has to replace her position as CO of the Atlantis and since the SGA team has a bomb up their sleve they probably will pull it up and place Picardo up there.

I agree with you tough, so far Woolsey didn't hit it with me; but after looking back thru the shows I kinda get the impression that the writers wanted the viewer to not like Woolsey as he kinda was like a villain of some sorts... and also Picardo never really had a chance to work out the character and playing recurring goals for such characters who appears all over the place is kind of hard. But knowing how Picardo acts(eg. ST: VOY) I'm sure that he can cope up with the task and add up to the team they have at hand.

To answer the question that will I watch... well there ain't any SG-1 coming any time soon, not in the amount I want, so SGA still seems like the next best thing out there.

I will keep watching this show because it is one of the best Scifi shows of all time !
I was hoping to see the return of Doctor Elizabeth Weir as a replicator, but Stuff happens.
Hell I'm still hoping Ford comes back.

The big question I have is how long are we going to have to wait until Season 5 episodes start to air?

According to the article (link written 2-12-08) "Weir appeared at the end of Season Four's Be All My Sins Remember'd." That was episode 4x11 & aired 1-4-08. This leads me to believe that if they can't get this simple fact straight, it may be an unreliable source. Weir could end up back later though, it wouldn't surprise me.

It doesn't say that. However, there is that inference in the last episode 4x20 - The Last Man, where Col.Carter dies as the ship crashes into the hive ship. Speculation as it is, the after-effect is still with us. It's a story told to Lt.Col.Sheppard by a future Rodney McKay.

Picardo may be an easy to hate idiot, however, it is not for sure that he is taking command. Cliff-hangers are like that.

I'd like to see more on the "said to be focusing" information. Haven't seen that before. SG1 isn't coming back anytime soon. 10x20 - Unending which aired 3-13-07 was the TV series finale. Regrettably SG1 has gone the way of Star Trek (sort of) by making DVD motion pictures. The first "Ark Of Truth." The second "Continuum" reportedly due out this July.

Funny how z1rdarryl said he's still waiting for Ford's return. He was a good character & got junkied out on Wraith juice.

All that said, I would not be upset with Carter's departure. There were a great number of Atlantis fans which were upset at her cross-over command. She can stay dead, even though it was just part of the McKay to Sheppard story future speculation line. Picardo commanding would be an entirely different thing. Hopefully that wouldn't happen. Will have to see. Technically there is no official information about Season five yet, no matter how much sense it makes to continue. It would be a bummer if it got cancelled though.

Ha, ha, ha...good one. All sarcasm aside, Ark of truth is over, we're waiting on Contiuum. She never should have been at Atlantis anyways...crapping writers.

Woolsey was just a fabrication of Sheppards future self that went forward to go back after conversing with an aged Rodney who set him in stasis until he could get Sheppard back to the correct time.

Therefore, now that he's back to the start, prior to where he stepped through in the first place (4x20 - The Last Man), none of what occurred in the future actually happened. Ronin & Sam dying, Woolsey in charge, Rodney getting old, none of it. The timeline is restored so to speak & Sheppard is in the process of being blown up in the warehouse. Or is he? Cue cliffhanger "to be continued" whenever because we don't have an official season five announcement, sighs.

edit: found this today.

5x01 - Search & Rescue - Recap

During dinner with Teyla & Sheppard, Ford showed up. Ronin shocks him back to reality & he's in the rubble being worked on.

Sam wasn't in the opening credits. Robert Picardo, on the other hand, was.

Next scene we see Sam in the gate room being briefed about Sheppard & his crew & the lack of contact.

Rodney is all excited about finding Michael's database when getting rescued is more important, snicker. Rodney & Maj.Lauren are found, Sheppard & Ronin have too, they're just too deep, so they don't know the others know they're there.

Teyla tries to convince dude-bud-man to help her escape & he's not having it. They get Rodney & the major out, Ronin & Sheppard are still buried. Meanwhile Michael shows up & Captain Vega hits a wraith dart with her bad a$$ machine gun (a foreshadow for another episode called Whispers, can't wait for THAT one). The landing party has to bail so they don't get taken out. Off to orbit & cloaked they go.

Daedalus shows up & Sam tells them they can't shoot down the Wraith cruiser because Teyla is onboard. The cruiser tries to escape & their hyperdrive takes a hit. That was cool when it just bounced off the hyperspace window.

While Sheppard & Ronin are being dug out they realize that the diggers are not their crewmates. Talk about sacrifice, Daedalus lowers shields to beam up Sheppard & Ronin & get the jumpers onboard & lose hyperdrive, sublight, Asgard tech & down to 50% life-support.

Good to see that Sheppard & Ronin are alright. Out of the frying pan & into the fire as they take a jumper to go get Teyla. Way to ratchet up the urgency, found Teyla, her contractions are super close & Sheppard's aggravated his wounds. Meanwhile Rodney tells us that Michael has the hyperdrive back online & is powering up. Boom goes the hyperdrive & Rodney asks Teyla to "hold it in," priceless. He's more messed up about it than she is. Great scene, baby delivered, rescue complete, cruiser destroyed.

Interesting how we next see Rodney bringing flowers to the baby & Sam is explaining she's off to Earth to witness some last Ba'al clone symbiote thing & have her first year Altantis command review. When she arrives at SGC Woolsey tells her he is replacing her, wow. We knew it was coming, though. Will be quite interesting to see how he transitions.

5x02 - The Seed - Recap

Woolsey's entrance, according to Col.Sheppard, very inspiring.

Dr.Keller woke up with goo on her hand, hmmm.

The Woolsey briefing went well, rather dismissive & curt.

Dr.Beckett comes out of deep freeze, then tries to help Dr.Keller with the whateverthehellitis that's covering her, wow.

First week on the job & Woolsey has his hands full.

That spagetti monster nearly got Zelenka, good thing Teyla shot it up.

Sheppard flew a jumper into it, got to Dr.Keller & made the stick, yeah.

While in his recovery bed Sheppard is being told that Ronin is well with the exception of a bruised larynx, that will prevent his speaking for several days, Sheppard says, I wonder if anyone will notice the difference. Great writing.

Welcome to The Pegasus galaxy (said Sheppard to Woolsey at the end).

5x03 - Broken Ties - Recap

Ronon abducted by Tyre was a good attention getter. Poor Woolsey couldn't operate the doors in the briefing room, grin.

Teyla not sure about resuming active duty was a bit curious.

Tyre's illustration of wraith reverse feeding addicition was an interesting piece to the story. When Ronon was worked on, the impression was that this was a form of brainwashing.

Nice hand cut, good of Tyre to oblige, in addition to the kabooms on the wraith lab too.

To finish things off we have Teyla officially requesting return to active duty.

5x04 - The Daedalus Variations - Recap

The show opens with the Daedalus appearing in the Atlantis scanners. After confirming that the Daedalus that they are familiar with is actually at SGC, Sheppard & his team go to investigate it. While on board the second Daedalus, Teyla finds the last recorded log entry & it's some unknown commander lady, claiming that the surviving crew abandoned ship? hmmm. What is this energy reading that's making such a rukus? Shake, rattle, roll, big flash, woah, the away team lost connection with Atlantis. As they explore the ship they found their own bodies, how trippy is that?

The parallel universe theory is about to run wild. This drive thing is being called "The Alternate Reality Drive." The next jump brings them in view of a variation of Atlantis & another unknown ship, which fires on Atlantis. The team intervenes & is fired upon. Poor Ronon gets a crash course in firing a Rail-gun. Rodney proposes using the ARD (Alternate Reality Drive), only to be brought to close proximity to the surface of the sun.

Ronon goes for a walk & runs into some alien who kicks his a$$. Sheppard shows up to help bring the thing down & more appear. Rodney has Teyla drop the shields so he can use the extra power to activate the ARD, which rises to 98%, 99, 100, then Rodney tells Sheppard that the drive is overtaxed with only a couple jumps left, which could strand them forever...increase dramatic effect.

Rodney plots a reverse course which is supposed to take them back where they've come from & get them to where they started, home. Meanwhile he's to fix the sublight drive. Next jump brings the return of the attacking alien ship. Just in time, Rodney restores sublight & the alien fighters are gaining.

Ronon has a tantrum & beats on the display. To which Sheppard says: "Easy Chewie those buttons are your friends." F302's show up unexpectedly. Sheppard gets a transmission from himself. The other Sheppard says that "his" Daedalus was destroyed two years ago. They part company & the next jump brings them to a planet of sorts. On the way to the hangar bay, more aliens open fire upon them, Rodney is hit. The dead alien lets go of a grenade which causes a hull breach & makes the hangar bay inaccessible. The Daedalus jumps again & arrives in orbit over Atlantis. Because Atlantis can not make contact with them Major Lauren & Zelenka go out in a jumper to investigate. On the way to the Daedalus it vanishes. The jumper finds the crew & picks them up in their spacesuits. The ending finds Rodney getting a reprieve at baby holding.

5x05 - Ghost In The Machine - Recap

Great title. Monkey's & lightning & glitches, oh my. A message from Weir on Rodney's computer? Turns out a rebel group of replicators were experimenting with ascension & ended up trapped formless in subspace. The existence in which Weir describes as the worst migraine imaginable.

When she built herself a new body she still had to convince the crew she was who she said she was. Then she told he crew that the others had found her.

The others arrive & Koracen (interestingly Corazón = Spanish = heart), the replicator leader, floods the city to force Atlantis to capitulate to the terms of acquiring new bodies. Woolsey boldly calls their bluff by saying that Atlantis is the only place with the technology to make a replicator body, sink the city & those chances sink with it. They capitulate & the city is stabilized. The new Weir proposes that the replicators be allowed to manufacture human bodies & Woolsey complies. Koracen escapes wounding Ronon in the process. Weir goes after him & the hunt is on. Sheppard finds them both & is surprised to learn that Weir had this planned all along, stating that she truly didn't think they were a threat. To prove it, she off's Koracen who was going to do in Sheppard.

At the end the replicator group agrees to go to some other world to continue their work so long as they stay put & communicate with no one except Atlantis. When they step through the gate, they are redirected to a space gate which leaves them adrift in space somewhere. Rodney's last words are "that leaves the question of if it was really Weir at all."

Yeah agree Atlantis is an O.K. show compared whit firefly that show was so much better, the reason why i`m mad is cause they canceled the only good show remaining on scifi. channel (except Eureka, atleast we have that) smile.gif

Btw guys i think why they canceled it, i read on gateworld.net that the reason for the cancellation is that they need the money for the third spin-off Stargate Universe , Robert C. Cooper said to MGM that if his going to do this show he will do it properly or not, and ofcourse they need a lot of money smile.gif

Stargate Universe Has A Go! biggrin.gif

The Stargate franchise blazes forward into new territory with Stargate Universe, a brand new television series from the creators of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. The SCI FI Channel announced today that it has picked up the new series for 2009.

The show will begin production early next year, and premiere in the summer with a 2-hour movie.

"SCI FI has enjoyed tremendous success with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis and we're proud to be the home of the new Stargate Universe," Mark Stern, Executive Vice President, Original Programming for SCI FI said. "Universe will continue the Stargate legacy of vibrant storylines and compelling adventures, but will re-invent the format in a whole new way."

Universe will attempt to appeal to a broader audience, drawing new viewers into the Stargate world. The show will be "a little more character-based, a little less rooted in a sci-fi mythology," co-creator Brad Wright told GateWorld. "It really does come down to characters and stories that are engaging, and that people want to see -- that they feel like they haven't seen before."

Part of the new focus is a deliberate attempt to bring in younger viewers to watch Stargate Universe. "This is an opportunity to reinvent this franchise and make it relevant to a new generation," SCI FI president Dave Howe told The Hollywood Reporter. "We really don't want to be more of the same. It's going to build clearly off the existing franchise but with a cast that gives it a younger vibe."

Stargate Universe is set on board a massive Ancient ship called the Destiny, millions of years older than even the city of Atlantis (story). The Ancients launched the automated ship millions of years ago to seed Stargates throughout many galaxies, with a second ship planned to follow it up and explore those planets. But they got busy with ascension, and never followed through on the plan.

Earth discovers that the Stargate's mysterious ninth chevron can be utilized to gate directly to the Ancient ship, opening up literally the whole universe to explore. But the team will soon discover that they have no way back to Earth, and must ride the ship on its programmed course.

Here is how SCI FI describes the show:

After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by The Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion, but never completed.

What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never ending mission, as the Stargate Universe crew discovers the ship is unable to return to Earth, and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.

The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission. Challenges will arise though as the ship comes into range of Stargates placed centuries ahead of the Destiny and the crew is unable to control the ship's navigational schedule. If someone is left behind, there is no way to go back for them, adding to the drama of encountering new races, enemies and adventures.

The Ancients: Is there anything they can't do? From "Rising"
Wright and Atlantis and Universe co-creator Robert C. Cooper will serve as show-runners, and are currently writing the premiere episode.

The news of the show's pick-up comes immediately on the heels of the network's announcement that Stargate Atlantis is ending after the current, fifth season, but will continue on to TV movies (story). But executive producer Brad Wright insists that the one decision did not cause the other.

"It's not the case that anything is being pushed aside, any more than SG-1 is pushed aside," Wright told GateWorld. "Shows have a life, and they live their life ... There will always be a point where those people are disappointed. This is a way of preserving Atlantis going forward in a very strong way."

Wright told GateWorld that Stargate Universe has been in the concept stage for two years, and that this year the time was right for SCI FI and MGM to move forward on the project together.

Stargate's third live-action television series will shoot at The Bridge Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia. Stargate will take up new stage space on the lot, with the Atlantis and Stargate Command sets staying put on Stages 6 and 5 (respectively).

5x06 - The Shrine

This particular storyline has a way of taking on many layers of meaning based on personal experience or the lack thereof. It could happen to any character on any show & has been portrayed in various fashions, some of which can be staggering to contemplate, others not so much.

In this show it was strange to see Rodney in that condition in his veritable prime. And to see Ronan be the one to suggest the visit to the shrine came as a surprise in a way. Had not seen that side of Ronan very often & it's easy to forget.

Mrs. Miller is always a pleasant surprise & to have her decide to go to the shrine was interesting to say the least.

The idea of having the viral creature emerge from Rodney's skull as a way to escape the effects of the energy was a great way to explain his recovery. To have Rodney die in that fashion would have been an unwelcome occurrence.

Atlantis actors react to cancellation

This past weekend, fans of Stargate had the chance to mingle with their favorite actors at Creation Entertainment's Official Stargate Convention in Chicago. For some though, the event had an oddly ironic sense of deja vu attached.

In 2006, during the week of the Chicago convention and immediately following the airing of Stargate SG-1's landmark 200th episode, SCI FI Channel went public with the announcement that they were canceling the series after 10 years -- but with the added knowledge that a younger series would carry the torch and the SG-1 cast would transition to movies.

Flash forward two years later, and the timeline is strangely similar. Immediately preceding the airing of "The Shrine" -- once again the sixth episode of the season -- the announcement was made that the plug was being pulled on the popular spin-off. Again, this was accompanied by the announcement that a new series would carry the torch and the Atlantis cast would shift to a movie format.

Both announcements have left some repeat Chicago convention attendees wondering whether or not they are being punished. The timing of the announcement this year, while not diminishing the fun factor of the convention itself, still cast a grey cloud over the weekend's proceedings, as many fans worried about the cancellation of the series and questioned the direction the Stargate franchise is heading.

GateWorld took the time to sit down with actors David Nykl ("Radek Zelenka") and Chuck Campbell ("Chuck the Technician") at the convention, and get their comments on these latest developments.

"On Tuesday they announced it to the cast, and I wasn't there," Nykl said. "So I came in the next day and I was getting ready like I usually do, and there was this weird mood on set. So I asked what was going on. And it was actually Chuck who told me!

"It's a shock. It's like any big news. There's a process you go through. You're sad, you're angry. You're worried about what's going to happen. There's a sense that it's a real shame. The cast and crew have been together so long that it's a real blast doing the show."

"But you have to remember, we've been doing it for five years," Nykl added. "For a lot of shows in this day and age, that's a major accomplishment." And with Atlantis movies on the horizon, the actor stressed one thing: "Don't give up on us."

Those sentiments were echoed by Campbell.

"Hang in with us," he said. "This new series will be of the same caliber as the other two. These writers know what they are doing. They can write good television. You've been with us this long. Stay with us for the ninth inning. It'll be worth it. And thank you for the five years you've given us."

Atlantis Movie Green-Lighted
12:00 AM, 21-AUGUST-08

SCI FI Channel announced that it has given a green light to a two-hour movie based on its original series Stargate Atlantis.

SCI FI will air the as-yet-untitled film as a world premiere before its release on DVD by MGM.

Annoucement of the new film follows similar telefilms based on SCI FI's Battlestar Galactica and two straight-to-DVD Stargate SG-1 movies, Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum.

The Atlantis movie will be written by executive producers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, who also serve as the series' show runners.

The movie is set to follow the fifth and final season of Stargate Atlantis in January 2009.

"We're excited to tell Atlantis stories on a bigger canvas," said Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper, co-creators of SG-1 and Atlantis, in a statement. "The successes of the two original Stargate [direct-to-video] movies The Ark of Truth and Continuum have shown us the opportunities that the movie format offers. We have plans for both SG-1 and Atlantis to remain vital as we expand the franchise." Atlantis will air a milestone 100th episode in January 2009.

5x07 - Whispers

Awesome squad of familiar females. Chicks with guns, whew, wipes brow.

Christina Cox ... Major Anne Teldy
Leela Savasta ... Captain Alicia Vega ... short part, darnit
Janina Gavankar ... Sgt. 'Dusty' Mehra
Nicole de Boer ... Dr. Alison Porter ... Lieutenant Ezri Dax Of Star Trek DS9

With all the smack talk in the show thread, I'll just say it wasn't that bad. Suspension of disbelief may be required for the challenged fan. That whole Michael experiment mist thing was a bit eerie. And who isn't glad to see Beckett?

5x08 - The Queen

After discovering a way to eliminate the wraiths need to feed by innoculating them with a drug that will enable them to eat & digest "real" food, thus eliminating the need to feed on people, the crew visit Wraith dude (Todd?) to convince him of the benefits it could have & maybe give "his" crew the advantage over the other hives.

Teyla goes out on a limb by trusting Todd & poses as his queen. When they are in the presence of the primary, he immediately betrays that trust by killing the primary & puts the knife in Teyla's hand, saying "this is how it's done."

All goes well for a time until former wraith flag-ship commander overhears her chat with Atlantis crew in the brigg & he ends up dieing for it at the hand of Todd, luckily, at the last moment.

When they all make it back safe, Teyla & Sheppard confer upon the idea that it could have been Todd's plan all along to become the one in charge.
