Full Version: Burn Avi/divx On Cd For Dvd Playback?

I gave a CD with an AVI/Divx movie on it to a co-worker to play on his portable DVD player. As expected, it did not play. Is there a fool proof method to convert/burn using my CD burner, I recall VCD and SVCD (which would have produced about 3 discs for the whole movie) I think I need to convert my source file to mpeg or something like that, before burning it.
VCD would be ok.
I have a few converting pgms on my other HD, certain these are the one's needed to do the job.

Lastly, what about burning movies in WMV format to a CD disc for playback on a DVD player.
Note that the target playback unit I'm burning for is not a PC DVD unit.

thanks

i would use something like Nero or Ashampoo to burn DVD's.

it takes a fair bit of time, but it works 99:100 times for me.
then they are pretty much guaranteed to work in any DVD
player.

here is nero: http://ipb.quicksilverscreen.com/index.php?showtopic=105495 <<which is portable too, so that rocks.

and Ashampoo: http://ipb.quicksilverscreen.com/index.php...aded&start=

hope that helps ya!

Perhaps the target DVD player is not avi, divx compatible. Some of the older models are not, holds up Deathly hand. Which also means that wmv files will probably not play either. In this case one will need to know the file types of the target player & produce the required files on a CD.

Another thing to consider is whether or not to produce the files on a DVD. This is only feasible if the producing computer has a DVD player to burn with. Again, it will also be required to know which file format will display on the target DVD player & produce accordingly. This reason is suggested because a DVD disc might produce better results because it can hold a lot more data, 4 to 8 GB.

Good luck & let us know how it goes.
