There's a interesting little sci-fi film on the horizon called Moon starring Sam Rockwell. We've actually mentioned it a few times before, but it remains under the radar, or at least it will until today. The guys over at Bloody Disgusting got their hand on a very impressive batch of photos from the film. Astronaut Sam Bell (Rockwell) has been mining Helium 3 on the moon three years alone. Just two weeks shy of his departure from the lunar base Selene, Sam starts seeing and hearing things and feeling strange. When a routine extraction goes horribly wrong, he discovers that his employer has their own plans for replacing him and the new recruit is eerily familiar. If you're a sci-fi nut like me, you'll definitely want to check these out!

Click any of the photos below to see more of them. We've only just featured our own favorites below.

Moon is being directing by Duncan Jones, also known as Zowie Bowie, the son of David Bowie. Jones is a former ad exec turned filmmaker with only one film under his belt, a sci-fi short from 2000 called Whistle. I really love the look of this. I'm a big fan of anything sci-fi and an even bigger fan of independent sci-fi. Beyond that, the prospect of seeing Rockwell take on a solo role is very exciting. He's an incredibly underrated actor and roles like this will only put him in the spotlight even more. Moon doesn't yet have a US distributor just yet and only recently seems to have finished shooting.

QUOTE
Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is nearing the end of his contract with Lunar. He's been a faithful employee for 3 long years. His home has been Selene, a moon base where he has spent his days alone, mining Helium 3. The precious gas holds the key to reversing the Earth's energy crisis.

Isolated, determined and steadfast, Sam has followed the rulebook obediently and his time on the moon has been enlightening, but uneventful. The solitude has given him time to reflect on the mistakes of his past and work on his raging temper. He does his job mechanically, and spends most of his available time dreaming of his imminent return to Earth, to his wife, young daughter and an early retirement.

But 2 weeks shy of his departure from Selene, Sam starts seeing things, hearing things and feeling strange. And when a routine extraction goes horribly wrong, he discovers that Lunar have their own plans for replacing him and the new recruit is eerily familiar.

Before he can return to Earth, Sam has to confront himself and the discovery that the life he has created, may not be his own. It's more than his contract that is set to expire.

i saw a movie poster and searched for more info on this movie, this is what i found. it looks cool, sam rockwell and kevin spacey as the voice of the computer he has for company while stuck on the moon, looking forward to a trailer and then the flick.

...there is a big diference between a film festival showing dates (which you listed) and a genaral release which is listed as mid july...

...its imposible to sneak a cam into a festival screening...
Ruggerman
yea this is definately a movie i have been waiting for. I am curious as to how it will be. I hear a lot of good things and the trailor looks pretty cool but what wheni see it i'll obviously decide then. It looks like it has a 2001: a space odessey feel with that robot they showed, i wonder if thats what they were going for, and will it turn on him in some way?

I understand that. smile.gif

i see him as a clone with implanted memories. his replacement is him. another clone with memories of a wife and daughter to go home to. maybe he has a expiration date genetically stored in him, so he dies when his contract is up? but something went wrong this time and he didnt die? idk but my movie sounds pretty good too =D

Sounds like something I'd watch. I'll keep my eyes open for this. THe lunar lab and vehicles have that model look. I wonder if this is intentional or shots of them before the special effects guys get to work on them. Nice designs though.

Edit:

Just watched the trailers. Looks great actually. This limited release business is pretty annoying though. Not a single theater in town is showing it. It's also only made $136,046 so far. I hope the hype picks up.

If it's only being shown on limited release in the US, then I'm forced to find a copy online somewhere. I was fully prepared to go to the theater to see this one, but alas "limited" showing in the US. fooey. I was hoping to erase that Terminator 4 charade from my memory banks.

ps that trailer is on Hulu in high-res for those who can view hulu that is

Please go see this movie, I posted in another thread about how much I loved it. The person I was with commented on the fact that it was only showing on one screen at the theater we attended, however Transformers 2 was showing on 8. Appalling. I didn't know until afterward that it was directed by David Bowie's son.

Any luck peoples?? I can't find it anywhere. sad.gif

reds2007

Penno2007
Does anyone know where i can get a copy of this? I would go watch it in cinema but where i live its not being showed sad.gif

Jordoro
I went to see this on Saturday after waiting months to see it.
It lived up to expectations.

It's only showing at a handful of cinemas in the UK, which is sad.

This sucks that in this day what looks like a real science fiction movie gets released so poorly and then to top it off I can't even watch it here.

This title will be released on November 16, 2009.

I'm very anxious myself to watch this film. Thanks for the release date Jayflix. Marking it on my blackberry calendar now.
debloree
This is too weird. I looked at this thread 2 days ago and was convinced that this movie was DOA somewhere and we'd never see it. So is the Nov release date for UK or US?

Well on some googling I'm curious as to where you got that info because from what I've read it's already completed it's run. Where did you see this?

thank you. (never looked in the settings. you learn something new every day)
MZ3
It's a shame it can't remove it completely, a distracting crackle remains for the voice over. I've tried messing with the equalizer and the other settings to try and remove it but came up with nothing. any joy for anyone else?
stargazr1976
Thanks a million for the tip about gomplayer. Been wanting to watch this.
Although the audio isnt perfect sure beats waiting till mid november.
SEB
There is supposedly a dvd screener with spanish audio floating around. We may be in luck.
miaru
Thanks for that tip about the gom player to remove the russian audio. It worked great and I didn't care about the hiss. Awesome movie. Thanks.
SEB
Yep, here is the spanish audio dvd screener....

http://ipb.quicksilverscreen.com/index.php...st&p=828652

Enjoy!
MZ3
I thought I posted a link to the spanish screener yesterday just below my previous post. Was it deleted? wondering if I did something wrong?
SEB
No MZ3, you did nothing wrong, besides posting it in this thread instead of the divx foreign section. I couldn't get the link to work so I archived it. Then I found the one I posted in the proper thread. If it wasn't for you we wouldn't have known about the screener at all yet. So Bravo! yeah.gif emoticon-0137-clapping.gif I'm hoping someone is able to sync up some english audio to it soon. Or at least somehow record the audio from GOP player and do it with that. Man I am psyched to see this flick.

Worth the Wait! Audio is a little in & out but supremely watchable. I think i will have to watch it again to really get the full impact. Overall an excellent Sci-Fi film.
illspirit
To be honest, I was little disappointed. I've been wanting to watch this film for so long, and when I finally do, well... It's not a bad film. In fact, it's a very good film, but I think it's a little bit weaker than a lot of people are making out.

Thanks was looking forward to this one! thanks.gif

If Sam2 is in his Helium3 transporter traveling back to earth, where does he land that Lunar Industries don't discover him inside and go: eh-up? - you're not supposed to be in here sonny - BANG!

sam isn't just traveling back to earth, He makes it back, if you listen just before the credits roll you hear a Tv station talking about a sam clone giving evidences at a trial!

Over all this movie was grate, and i fully recommend you see it in theaters for the full effect.
morpheusprime
The chances are that Sony isn't probably going to put a whole lot of money into campaigning to get Sam Rockwell a Best Actor Oscar nomination, but that's not stopping director Duncan Jones from trying to get a grassroots campaign going to try and get the Academy's attention. If you feel he should get a nomination, sign the petition at the link.

Yeah I heard that, so where did his transporter dock that Lunar Industries didn't stop him? You'd think they'd have their complex locked down fairly tight. Praps if they do a sequel (jones is talking about a trilogy) they'll explain it.
