Wow, I wished I found this a few years ago for my old science class. Everyone was clueless after watching this movie in class, they could not even understand the basic stuff in the movie, I guess I was the only one paying attention. But great explanation. I love this movie and, of course, I am mad about the remake, but what can I do?

guys i have not read the link yet but will do after this. but you should read the real book if you want to find out what the real plot of the film is. the book is allot better and explain it all in more detail

you do realize that the book is basically an adaptation of the movie, and not the other way around? Clarke and Kubrick wrote the movie together as an original work, and Clarke simultaneously novelized it and the book was released after the movie came out.

2001: a space odyssey, in my opinion, is one of the best films ever made! to understand the film thoroughly, its best to enjoy a few tasty bong hits as that tremendously long and thought provoking intro is playing. from then on you can lie back in your couch and vegetate, letting the awesome combination of sound and vision filter through your brain. While in this state, think over and analyze everything your eyes are witnessing, therefore coming up with your own interpretation of what's actually going on. At one point, you will suddenly realize that you have been staring at a slow moving spaceship for 5 minutes straight, you will think, what the fuck am i watching, but will be unable to look away, as you have been pulled into a strangely hypnotic state, but dont fight it. the next stage will involve you stumbling upon the meaning of life, which will linger in your head for about 5 seconds before floating out your ear and disappearing out the window, you will have no recollection of what you were thinking. after that you are free to interpret the film as u wish.

I know this is a discussion of what 2001 is about, but to be honest, i like to think that your own interpretation is correct, and no one should tell you otherwise, therefore i shall not be sharing my view, or be clicking on that link.

oh also, to enjoy 2001 fully, get Blu-ray, awwww yeeeaaahhhhh!
