Has anybody else seen "Empire 500 greatest movies of all-time list", yet?

STUPIDEST MOVIE LIST EVER!!

Any time that you let anybody vote, the list is going to turn awful. That's way the MTV movie awards look nothing like the Academy Awards. You can't let anybody vote!! Because half the time, the people voting are 8 year olds who vote "Spongebob Squarepants the movie" as the greatest movie ever, a million times. While the intellectual movie buff is to busy working his 9 to 5 job and can't vote for some reason.

Some people just don't understand that there is a difference between "the greatest movie ever" and your "favorite movie that you just saw about 2 months ago", (psst, look at #15).

And to have Ben-hur ranked as the #491 greatest movie of all time is ridiculous, considering the fact that it is tied for the record of the most academy awards for a film.

The list just is a mess overall.

That's MO.

Yep, it's a stupid list. Fear and loathing, 12 monkeys, clerks, requiem for a dream, almost famous, one flew over the cuckoo's nest, American Beauty, Donnie Darko, The shinning and The big Lebowski, Should all be a lot higher. Anyone who rates black and white movies (excluding clerks haha) higher than these, is as old as my grandad. Tons of movies that should be on there are not either sad.gif

That is a steaming load of crap. Having lots of people vote is probably the best way to figure out what films really hit home. Or on the other hand you could have a couple of elitist a--holes telling you whats good and what isn't. Oh yes that is a much better idea. rolleyes.gif

What you don't seem to grasp is that film is a very subjective thing.

Not really. I could just be a group of 13 year olds, voting for there favorite film a million times. Now does that sound fair? It doesn't to me.

Just because a group of 13 year olds say that a movie is the greatest movie doesn't make it true.

There's nothing wrong with voting, but if anybody can vote as many times as they like, then the list is trash. And when I say they can vote as many times as they like, I'm referring to the fact that anybody can easily change their IP address and vote again.

I agree with not being able to vote as many times as you like...That defeats the purpose of voting in this case. But I don't think that everyone that votes is a 13 year old. That is an asinine assumption. Just because you don't like the films on the list, that does not mean that the list was created by 13 year olds. In fact I'm almost willing to bet that most of the people who voted were probably well over the age of 13. That isnt even my point anyway...My point is that you need to have a bit more of an open mind, and maybe learn to respect other people's opinions a little more. Also if you were a real film buff, like you claim to be, I think you'd understand that there is more to film than how many Oscars a film has won. Once gain...It's subjective. Not everyone will like the same things, and that's a good thing. If everyone liked the same things the world of film would be a VERY dull place.

Very good point indeed Trebek. I personally feel 7/10 Oscar movies are some of the most boring movies out there. I'm not saying they are all bad movies, just boring most of the time. There are exceptions to this though. The Departed comes to mind as one that's good. Everyone is different when it comes to their views, and that's good. I like old movies and a lot don't. Hell, I've even got one of the Original "Gone With The Wind" movie posters from back in the day, framed and in perfect condition. It's worth a lot of money.

I like a movie that doesn't put me to sleep, something with a lot of action and a good story, that's just me. I'm willing to check out anything though. As for that list, it's just that....a list. Is it a good one, yes it is. Why, just look at all the good movies on there and that answers that question right away. I don't agree with the order of the movies, but few would, doesn't mean the list is rubbish though.
I don't try to analyze list like that because they are based on some one eleses beliefs and opinions and far be it for me to step on another's mans beliefs, or especially their opinions.

gone with the wind is number 31? really. it is not my favorite movie but cmon it is easily a top 5. The fact that Citizen Kane is not in the top 10 at the least makes this poll completely bogus. Casablanca should also be much higher. Fight Club is no 10? good movie but no way # 10. jaws at no 5 is a decent pick. thank god no 1 pick was something that actually made some sense.

I see that they have the LOTR movie broke up within the top 60's Most people see the trilogy as one.. so they are way off base there. Same with Indiana Jones movies, and Star Wars.. this website and thier list just doesn't hit home with me... really the Godfather as number one.. not so much... come on people.. you can do better then this.... you have decades of good movies winning award after award... the Godfather... top ten but not number one.. and I for one cannot say what is number one...but I can say it is not the Godfather
