EPISODE: FUTURE LIFE ON EARTH http://www.veoh.com/videos/v15558439MCprAQQK

Learn about the technologies that will usher in a whole new way of life: we will live in floating cities, fly to work and travel in cars capable of operating underwater. And, with new technologies, humanity will find new ways of protecting and conserving resources to meet the needs of a growing population by using renewable sources of water, food and electricity. The era of smog-filled skies will be over, because fewer of us will be driving cars. Where we're going, we won't need roads. We'll be piloting environmentally friendly personal vehicles between cities and under the seas. And the good news is we'll never be lost, thanks to new advances in GPS-driven virtual mapping. Then again, with the ability to teleport our presence anywhere on Earth, we might not have to travel at all. And, best of all, we'll all have more time to enjoy the astounding advances of our near future, because we'll all be living longer. A lot longer.

Or

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?d...122583858396534 (thanks akron)

Catch a first-time glimpse at smart technology that will put android helpers in the home, network commuters and entire cities to the Web, and bring us entertainment systems that can virtually make dreams come true. Advances in artificial intelligence are creating machines with near human-like mental agility. Intelligence will be embedded everywhere -- even in our clothing, thanks to smaller, more powerful computers.

EPISODE: FUTURE CARS

Get in the driver seat of the fastest, smartest and most high-performance cars of tomorrow. See the supercars that will reach speeds unimaginable with today's technology. They will operate on voice command and drive without a drop of gas.

EPISODE: EXTREME TOMORROW

Venture to the farthest edges of science, where invisibility, teleportation and super-strength will give us seemingly impossible powers and capabilities.

EPISODE: FUTURE FLIGHT

What's in store for future air travel? This episode reveals the latest in secret military aircraft, shape-shifting planes, craft with self-healing wings and a future in which just about every one of us has a personal airplane.

EPISODE: FUTURE SHIPS

If you think you've already seen every way a boat can move across the water, think again. "Future Ships" goes inside invisible aircraft carriers, mega-yachts, personal submarines and craft capable of changing appearance on the high seas.

EPISODE: FUTURE METRO

Go inside the networked intelligence of tomorrow's urban transportation systems. We'll examine personal rapid transit, stackable cars and underground automated highways.

Soon, we will be able to build computers with artificial intelligence and processing power that rivals the human brain. Intelligence will be everywhere, embedded in our clothing, our vehicles and homes. Intelligent robots will serve us - until they don’t feel like doing so anymore. And what happens then…?

A computer that is as capable as a brain doesn't automatically have a mind nor any agency. The paradigm of AI research that revolves around trying to simulate the biological processes of the brain is very very close to being realized, but I highly doubt that these resultant technologies will actually think. If AI starts killing people (oops, many armies already have AI soldiers and sentries who have killed people) then it will be used to kill people by other people. The quest to invent a robot that is aware of itself and able to produce novelty is contradictory to the concept of a robot or computer... These devices are tools, and machines- human beings (and animals) can be used as tools or used mechanically, but we are neither. We poses an entirely different way of approaching problems than computers do, and this way focuses on novelty and invention- where as the computer's strength is its ability to repeat tasks without any deviation. Worrying about a computer becoming socially rampant is just a fantasy- what is more likely to occur, along these lines, is the fusion of high speed precision mathematics and computation with the human nervous system and other discreet systems, which will undoubtably produce new kinds of perceptions of reality, and radically new types of people. Of course there always is the possibility that there will be developed a theory of the mind that will allow the creation of synthetic minds, but a mind is not just a brain, and a brain is not just a computer. This documentary is "cool" in the vaguest sense of the word, and it reminds me of The Worlds Fair or Disney's Epcot Center... My advice to avid futurists who watch this is to 1.consider deeply the technologies discussed here and 2.form your own opinion of how these technologies could be used or applied to make your world better. No reason to buy anybody elses' future when you can make your own.
