Is Sam Merlott some sort of dog-werewolf? (Season 1, episode 8)

I knew things were going to start getting weird. I had a feeling they were going to delve into Hoodoo and they did a bit with the Hoodoo woman who did the exorcism of Tara's Mom, but I would have never thought that they would have a guy who transforms into a dog.

Is it some sort of curse or withcraft?

Also, has anybody paid attention how they just dropped the fact that Sookie is telepathic? I mean it was used heavily in the first few episodes and now there isn't a mention of it, especialy considering it could cause a lot of the non-sense with Jason's new girlfriend to be over with before any real problems develop. Isn't it kind of odd that Sookie hasn't used her abilities on Jason's girlfriend though she's poking around in everybody elses mind? -LOL

So I'm thinking the Hoodoo woman's powers worked after all. Just because she worked as a clerk at a pharmacy doens't mean she isn't a practioner of Hoodoo.

Trust me, I've studied Hoodoo and I know that 'Angelica Root', the root she had to hold in her hand and then later rubbed on her face, is used in Hoodoo/Conjure work.

So, I'm thinking that naked woman that caused Tara to crash her car was actualy her demon coming back for revenge. Remember that Hoodoo woman said they can take any form and will try to kill you if they can.

Just *what* is Marianne???

When we were first introduced to her, naked with a pig and causing Tara's wreck, I thought she was the demon that had had exorcized out of Tara and her Mom. The Voodoo lady said the Demon would try to kill them. Then I started thinking that Marianne was a witch. Tonight's episode seemed to confirm my suspicions, I think, because she had a pagan statue of the Egyptian Nile Goddess as well as had the mural of Pan making love with a woman. What I don't understand is why she *shimmers* because, that is what Sam does right before he changes into a dog, but Marianne never changes into anything when does it. So does anybody else agree or disagree? I'm at a disadvantage because I have not read any of the books.

I haven't read the books either, but I'm pretty sure Sam the shapeshifter had sex with and then robbed the Admiral of a Battlestar.

I was thinking a Siren, after s2e2, she seems to have allot of control and influence over people, she made the whole bar start dancing... she can control Sam's shifting. Sookie read her mind and she thinks in some ancient foreign language. However she has a ridiculous appetite, I'm not sure where that fits in.

Maryann is quite a creepy character!

Yes, Maryann is quite the mystery....very wealthy, eats a lot, makes everyone fall in love....not sure what her deal is.

Lafayette is Vampire dinner.....we will soon find out if they grant his wish and make him.....as it would make the best storyline, I think it's pretty likely.

I noticed that the wife of the leader of that religious cult seems a bit more devious than ppl realize. She def wears the pants in that relationship, and I have a feeling she is going to put the moves on Jason sooner or later.

Let's see if I can hit all the major points:

Maryanne and Tara: First of all Maryanne is DEFINITELY a witch of some kind. Or better to say Pagan I guess. She follows Pan/Dionysus and as someone brought up the cult that followed Dionysus that kills people (can't remember the name greek myth or play that was in) I'd say there are definitely nasty consequences to what seems innocent. It was all good in the bar with people dancing and getting hot for eachother... until that lady's eyes turned black. NO good can come of that...lol

More over I think Maryanne is trying to breed Tara with Eggs. I'm not sure what the scam is, but when she slapped the sh*t out of her butler for interrupting their flirting I knew something was up. Maryanne doesnt' get a crap about Tara, she just wants something from her. I want to see how she's going to keep Tara from moving out of her house that I think is basically an illusion from her magic (way too perfect to be real) and in with Sookie. Also I'm pretty sure Maryanne is the one who cut out the heart of that lady who performed the "exorcism" on Tara's mom.

Damn it, how long before Sam stops being a pussy? He's basically indicated he has met werewolves, somewhere deep down I know he's got some killer instinct. I think before it's all over he's gonna transform into like a lion or a tiger and tear Maryanne's throat out. Or at least Eggs when his line of bullsh*t is revealed and he hurts Tara.

Lafayette: If they kill Lafayette instead of making him a vamp I don't care how good the rest of the show is, their writers are the stupidest people walking the planet. He's basically THE most interesting character on the show and that include Sookie, Bill and the rest of 'em.

Jessica, Bill, Sookie, Eric: No way Bill kills that whole family. I don't think he has the heart to plus there's no way Sookie would stay with him if he did. I do however think that Bill will take back his key and more or less break up with Sookie. However, when word of this debacle gets back to Eric... he'll have leverage over Bill to let him take Sookie to TX. Bill already dodged a bullet the last time, he goes back to vamp court his ass is definitely and literally going to the hole...lol

Jason, Church of the Sun: They are basically recruiting Jason to be a Vampire Hunter. I see it now. That's what the whole flag football deal was about. Not to mention that skit where Jason lost it and nearly stabbed the chick with a stake. Oh, and the Rev's wife is DEFINITELY gonna try to get Jason to hit it! But it's fine, cu I'm pretty sure the Rev. is gay anyway...lol. Maybe he'll be baning the runner up guy who got all pissy with Jason.

Thing is Jason is not going to be able to go out and kill vampires. At least not indiscriminately.... I'm interested to see how that plays out.

Season one was pretty much a blur (this show is far too addictive) but my theories are these:

Maryanne? I think a werewolf or something along those lines. Mostly because of how Sam got so defensive when Sookie compared him to a werewolf. Plus she's obviously got some sort of mojo going on. I'm not sure how that would fit in with Tara and the guy (forgive me, I'm terrible with names - the one who is staying at maryannes too) but I think somehow Maryanne feeds off sexual energy. My money's on Maryanne in the whole 'who killed the hoodoo lady' mystery.

Jason: I'm with a few other people on here, definite vampire hunter recruitment going on. I think that jock Jason met on the bus to the leadership conference is going to find out about Sookie and go after her eventually.

Lafayette: I love this guy, I really hope they turn him.

That detective fellow: My guess is he's going to go rogue and figure out the whole thing (hey, everybody cheers for the underdog) but in the end, everything will go invariably wrong and he'll probably die...

As for Bill when the last ep. left off: I really don't know how this one's gonna play out.

The one thing I love about this show is the unexpected, one minute you think you've got a handle on what's gonna happen and the next someone's smacked ya in the face with a dead fish. Can't wait to see how wrong I am

Love this series, and the second season looks to be great.

Jason - Eventually becoming a were-panther and hunting with the pack, the vampire hunter training weekend seems interesting as well.

Maryanne - Is known as Callisto in the novelsand is a maenad, this was all shown in episode 2 when she used her mojo to cause everyone in the bar to dance and then eventually engage in uncontrollable sexual acts, Maenads were also known to have certain control over animals, hence her standing near a big pig when Terra was drunk (reference to the book, when the Maenad fist appears in the novels, she is with a giant pig and appears to Sookie.) Explains why she can mess with Sam as his animal side is effected by her power.

Eric - Eric and sookie eventually end up together with their blood tie, (blood tie is when a vampire and human have shared each others blood together 3 times, they can feel each others emotions), but this doesnt seem to be happening in the series as they made Bill stake long shadow when he attacked sookie instead of Eric staking him like he did in the novel.


Best thing about this show, is its full of the unexpected especially as they dont follow the novels completely, which seems like a much better idea to keep the series fresh.

I dont see bill breaking up with sookie, not after his speech to her when just before they had makeup sex. Sookie will cry, play the victim, say its her fault and beg for forgiveness and all will be well in their camp.

I think Jason is gonna start having doubts about the church next episode, but the two leaders will find a way to trick his dumb ass and get him back on their path of righteousness. I knew his roomate was gunna be trouble since the scene on the bus when jason mentioned having breakfast with the leaders. Jason is already havin trouble being the "good guy" just because his sister is a fang banger, and he used to be hooked on V.

That whole thing with Tara and Eggs has me stumped, other than the obvious fact Maryanne gets her power from sexual energy and wants them to mate. Notice when Sam had his flashback, her power "shimmer" happened when they were having sex, and in the bar, everyone getting all lusty boosted her "energy" as well. I have a feeling that without sexuality, she might be watered down enough to defeat.

Well first off, the party where everyones eyes started turning black. That scared the living shit out of me.
Secondly, what the hell? Daphne is that monster in the forest? I don't see things panning out well for Sam in that lake.

D'aww at Hoyt and Jessica, I can see them going places, he's really an adorable actor, totally one I'd take home to mom, if you get my drift. And she's a cutie, 'cept her vampire impulses may overtake her, and she may do something detrimental to him. That is if Bill let's them continue dating in the next episode.

I feel so sorry, and happy for Lafayette, he's finally home and seeing him curling up in his quilt and crying made me sad. I also feel the thing between Tara and Eggs is sweet, but I think with Maryanne's influence is the only thing that has them attracted to eachother, I could however see them being together and balancing eachother out, without Maryanne being in the mix.

Also, Alexander Skargard who plays Eric must be fucking tall.. Compared to that redneck dude he iced in the last episode, geeeze he must be 6'5" or something, but what do I expect, the guy is from the Netherlands after all. Gotta love Nordic men.
