The Large Hadron Collider is the largest and most complex scientific instrument ever built and the highest energy particle accelerator in the world.

The accelerator is located 100 m underground and runs through both French and Swiss territory. ( 27km circumference)

Year 2008 September 10th, marks the culmination of 20 years of work by over 8000 scientists thousands of engineers, technicians and support staff from over 80 different countries.

some critics say that this could create a black hole and suck up the entire world..but many say that even if a black hole is created it will wannish within a millionth of a second..

great timing on this one... I think the current problem is that it doesn't work emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

I really don't want to wait another year for results, the scientists on the project must be some sour.

Yeah!, the reason they closed the project till 2009 was caused by an hydrogen leak in the system, that = bad, smile.gif

it was a bit more than a leak by what I read, apparently a malfunction (whose nature is unknown to me) caused a temperature increase of 100 degrees or so Celsius, boiling the hydrogen ( which was still pretty damned cold, we're not talking any sort of fire here) and causing a rupture. its a real bummer if you ask me. and I'm one of those in the camp of higgs disbelievers.

T minus 1 year till Higgs goes down in history for almost answering the answering " the question" !!!

( Seriously, think about it, Higgs Boson = 42 ? it just doesn't work. )

Wow! That was a really informative animation of how the LHC works. I had no idea of all the steps involved to get the protons up to speed before smashing them to smithereens in the LHC.
I think anyone interested in how the LHC works will enjoy this video.
Thanks SYLver smile.gif
