okay just a simple question. i understand why we code links in the cafe so much, but lets say i have a piece of freeware and i link to its official website for the download, what would be the point in coding that link? i'm not talking about linking to a cracked piece of software located or rapidshare on anything like that. i'm talking about something like this....

www.divx.com

or oh i don't know, maybe this:
SpeedBit Video Accelerator

just curious

i personally dont think its necassary for this though if you code all links it would be easier for newbie's so they dont get confused if they should or shouldnt code them (IMG:http://static.quicksilverscreen.com/ipb/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Ahhh, to code or not to code, "that" is the question. Personal preferences, like opinions, abound. In the case to which you are referring SADEYESBLEEDING, the world may never know.

When you code your links, it makes your post mor tidier, it is almost the same as with websites, what would you rather see? Main Site or http://quicksilverscreen.com/? That's the reason I code most of my links

Then there is this variation, which has been mentioned before. Added by clicking (IMG:http://static.quicksilverscreen.com/ipb/style_images/1/folder_editor_images/rte-code-button.png) [wrap in code tags] button around said url.

[*code]http://ipb.quicksilverscreen.com[*/code] (asterisks added to view)

Looks like so:
CODE
http://ipb.quicksilverscreen.com

Which ofcourse looks like this: QuicksilverScreen

I believe the point of coding links in the internet cafe is so that people cant post misleading links. So say i started a topic about a new full version of photoshop and i didnt code the link, if you dont check you could be linked to anything, such as.

http://quicksilverscreen.com/

Whereas if my link is coded, i cant mislead you.

No, there I used the
(IMG:http://static.quicksilverscreen.com/ipb/style_images/1/folder_editor_images/rte-link-button.png) insert link button. Ok it actually does exactly the same thing (put [*url=][*/url] in the post-variable to the server)

It's ok, MorbidPig's response nails it down as it explains the nature of the most likely use, to verify by sight that the link is authentic & not misleading as the example he gave so aptly illustrates.

that's a good point morbid makes. the only reason i could think of before was to keep links from being sniffed out and pulled.
