I saw this a couple days ago and immediately dismissed it as BS......if they really wanted to track fileshare users who download copyrighted files they would use a real movie. Do you guys think they are just out to catch DUMBASSES or something? Trust me, if they wanted to shoot fish in a barrel, there are much better ways.

I agree with sweetjimmy, surely the best way is to use a real file, becuase what is the point of using a dud file....not much evidence is it.
Still scary :S Much Love Vril |

Well they couldnt use a real file, imo for two reasons.
One, if they used a real file, they would be part of illegal copyright infringement and liable to prosecution, and if they did it with the permission of the copyright holder, it means its a legit release and no one can be done for downloading somethign they released to the public |

I'm not sure if they can bring civil charges based on the intent of copyright infringement. But crazier things have happened. |

Well, I'm far from being an attorney, but I think the gray area here is 'intent'. Perhaps MPAAss has permission from the copyright holders enabling them to attempt to curb illegal downloading of movies by using this scheme. Kinda' like when Dateline NBC basically entraps would-be pedophiles. They haven't actually committed a physical crime. But, the intent remains the same... the ultimate plan of the accused was to perpetrate the crime. What pisses me off is that copyright holders (who make MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars regardless of internet downloading) try to make it sound like they will be in the poor-house tomorrow if downloading does not stop... and I hope Lars Ulrich from Metallica reads this as he is the dickweed who really started all this crap in my opinion. Thus, I have been boycotting Metallica ever since and refuse to continue purchasing their cds or even listen to their music on the radio. I download EVERYTHING I can find by Metallica just on general principle, even though I only like about half of the stuff they have done to date.
In any event, I never sell or even give away that which I download. That could be easily construed by MPAA as attempted DISTRIBUTION of copyrighted materials. And that's probably a lot worse charge than simply downloading the material. *** Quote of the Day: “The likelihood of one individual being right increases in direct proportion to the intensity with which others are trying to prove him wrong.” - James Mason in 'Heaven Can Wait' |

Despite high-profile cases, the odds of an average file sharer being sued for copyright infringement are 1 in 2.6 million.

This is ridiculas, what are you people going on about. i agree that tracking a unreal film is silly and not usable in court but its intreasting to follow it. see were it goes.
Tracking is no big thing were all doing it nowadadys. even me and im just very very small fish. You just add your tracking code to the file, easy to do, try google tracking. There are loads of companys supplying tracking codes. Say i download a film on this site, which has the code added, i put it onto a dvd and send it to japan, wen the guy in japan puts it into his dvd player thats conected to the computer, the tracking code just sends a signal out bac to the person put the code in and hey pressto, we can watch as it crosses the world. At the moment im taking out the permissions ( properties) ( security) on all my downloaded files, i make all the permissions into NO. then take away the inherited bit, in audit as well as in security. Then i just leave it for a time. i dont put the inherited back in, i just put my own profile back in, cos then it shouldnt be active with my system, which is forever trying to crash and send error reports to microsoft. ( another very much used tracking system ) and ive also ripped every thread of NERO off my puter, cos they track everything we do, and ive read on there site that they can and if asked too will use all the info they've gathered over us, against us in court cases. i can show you the docs if need be. ive uploaded them onto google docs and my blog and highlighted it for quick reading. im still working on disgracing nero. checking out exactly what there TOA mean, legally then im going to upload that as well, highlighting the important bits. god i hate them. So best keep with the small players in the world of illeagal downloads. REVO will find every bit of nero and delete it. also i got IMGburn for burning which is Goddamn easy to use, YEAH. not like crap nero. And VLC is a great player and with it, u really dont need to download other codacs, not even the AAC one they go on about on this forum. Just one thing , try not to let any of your DVD programs automaticlly update. do it manully, go to there site, check it really is the legit site. then update. Use your firewall to stop these programs contecting to the internet when ur busy. hahhahah really paranonia but wen you read like neros TOA you should be. bye guys and remember tracking is already last years news were all doing it nowadays. hahhahahah And guys any site saying download zango, or 180 solutions like one of the link adders does on this site , just dont touch, zango bankrupt and gone, but the people that used it and got rich from it are still around and so is zango strangly enough. and now zangos has officially gone, its near to impossible to legally get them and remove it fom your puter. use REVO to search and delete that as well. lisabiziou This post has been edited by lisabiziou: Jun 25 2009, 11:32 PM |

also one other thing, about copyrighted stuff, i take screenshots of films, mess with them and make HDR photos of them then post them ( somewere) and or though i no they cant do much right at this moment, to me, did you no that nearly every scene or shot in a film is copyrighted. And because i track all the traffic to the site were i posted my screen shots, i know the industry has been on my site onto the page were i posted my screenshots. That may also set you off on a trail off thinking as to just how good is the industrys tracking devices, i mean they got billons of dollers to try to stop copyright infringment. So lets stop being naive shall we!. if i can track for free and easy what can they do with there bucks?
And if they can track one screenshots of a film i downloaded illeagelly. that is probally ripped what are these guys capable of? lisabiziou oh yes moderators, would you stop archiving disscussions you dont like. pretty please. This post has been edited by lisabiziou: Jun 25 2009, 11:47 PM |

To All
the hell they cant bring a case based on your attempt to download a bogus file. They can and probably will. Torrents are not safe for movies. I have been warned twice already and I only torrented like 10 movies in my life. This file in the thread here is a bogus movie but like a few people said it is still an attempt and that is all they need. They are totally able to file a case with simply intent and nothing more. I have been through the system enough times to know that intent is about all they get in most drug cases. Intent because it was fake, or intent because they conspired to sell drugs. Something you do not all recognize that is far worse than intent to distribute a pirated movie is CONSPIRACY. How about getting busted for conspiring to commit copyright infringement? How about the admins on this site all get rounded up and charged with conspiracy? I can almost bet that is the next step on their parts. Conspiracy is almost impossible to beat because it doesn't require a lick of proof to convict; just some asshole snitch and jury. There needs to be another solution besides torrents. Rapid Share is one I hear I just do not downlaod too much as I have ten felonies and I KNOW they would love to make an example out of me by giving me the statuatory 40 years for a movie. Fedral Criminal Sentencing usually works off of a grid for those of you who are not legally savvy (yet, knock on wood). Each prior conviction places you higher and means more time. The grid states how much time for what crime and with how many prior convictions. I am off the grid which means that I would recieve the highest end of the sentencing range or possibly an "exceptional" sentance as they call it when the judge goes above and beyond the grid because of mitigating circumstances such as numerous priors. The answer is not to fight. Not yet. Or go ahead and keep torenting until they finally grab you and make an example out of you. A better solution is to just be creative and find new methods of sharing content so the child molestors that they are cant eaves drop and track our actions. |

Hey! I'm from Denmark and the danish anti pirating group have just given up and are withdrawing all charges against pirates. Because the court in Denmark demands rock hard evidence and thats almost impossible, so unless you confess, nothing will happen. So i wouldn't be too afraid, but maybe this only is the case in Denmark??
Here is an article about it: http://epn.dk/teknologi2/computer/article1878080.ece It's in Danish. Google translate it if you want to read it. |
